Thread: John Waters

  1. John Waters

I've decided I want to see more John Waters stuff, starting with the infamous Pink Flamingos.

Any other recommendations? Pecker was OK, and I'm told Serial Mom is decent.

  2. serial mom is good, but it's definately tame by waters' standards. if you're looking for something more along the lines of pink flamingos, you should consider female trouble and/or desperate living.. definately not for the faint of heart (though both films seem considerably less shocking, what with jackass/fear factor/etc on the air.)

    protip: avoid cecil b. demented.

  3. Pink Flamingos is the shit. I can't reccomend Hairspray enough, such a good flick.
I knew he was a commie, cause he didn't drink [duff] beer.

Serial Mom is great Ricki Lake is in it. Seriously when I saw it in the theatre years ago a bunch of people left in disgust, it wasn't that bad.

  5. Serial Mom is awesome. Where else are you going to hear Kathleen Turner say "cocksucker"? Be sure to check out John Waters' book Shock Value. It's a must read.

  6. Coolness. Thanks!

  7. John Waters does a pretty entertaining stand-up act too. It was billed as a lecture when I saw him, but really it was tales of his exploits and adventures -comedy through and through.

Female Trouble is what Natural Born Killers would have been like if it were made in the early 80's.
    Waters is a visionary.
    And a freak.

hmm, yeah, btw, I wonder if his "Scratch 'n Sniff" DVD ever got released?
During his lecture he droped a plug for it, Female Trouble had just got the DVD upgrade, and he wanted his Scent-O-Rama film released next. Apparently it saw limited theater release in his early days. The audience was given scratch and sniff cards, and certain scenes would give cues as to which patch to sniff. probably farts and vagina scents. (I know he made some joke about the difficulty in getting his "scents" produced in the first place, but I forget the specifics) So anyway, he was really excited (giddy?) about the prospects of reviving that for home release.

sure an internet search would reveal the status. but I'm goin to sleep.
