This is a low budget flick in Mexico... I'm sure they aren't exactly doing everything like a big hollywood flick. The real question is why there weren't blanks in the gun.

It sure smells like sabotage to me. Someone in the prop department may have had a grudge with the actor and figured that this would be a really easy way to ruin him.

Yeah, that seems like the obvious. Perhaps there is more to the story that can't be told until the police resolve their investigation.
