Thread: DOOM

  1. Yep, it's just how id chose to program it... 35 tics per second. It was my understanding that it would require lots of reworking the internals to obliterate that barrier, which is why most source ports have not so far.

  2. I'm listening to the Sound track of Doom I+II that friend got for me years ago....
I've got a hankering to Doom again, and was going to post a thread about it today until I found this.
NOt sure I would have the time... but would anybody be interested in getting together online to play either coop of DM sometime soon? I've got a move to Florida coming in a few days... but once I'm down there, I'll definitely be up for a little Doomage.
Oh! ALmost forgot. The same friend who gave me the ST also developed a sort of capture the flag for Doom called Skull Tag. Anybody game?
Your llamas will be calm under most circumstances. Grouse flying up from under the feet will unglue the calmest llama

Post-college, pumpkin-defenestrating, tricycle racing angst. Whoosh.

    Best game ever.

I don't agree with the level design praise, since I think id's levels are mostly terrible outside of the obvious few classics. There was a small group of map makers that had a style they developed that I really loved, and I played all of their maps and liked them much more than id's standard stuff. I believe a few of them were involved in the levels for Final Doom, though I can't remember any names since it's been years. I do remember the Casali's though and how overrated they are... they just threw hundreds of monsters around, and every level they made was impossible to beat without god mode. Their lowest moment was one level in the Memento Mori pack that was just a giant outdoor area that opened up wider and wider as you killed more and more monsters. Boring.

I'm still undefeated in deathmatch to this day, though it'd be fair to mention that I only deathmatched with about 10 close friends at the time. I remember being pissed and confused about lag and ping when FPS's started using TCP/IP to connect. Old-school direct phone call deathmatch connections should've never gone out of style.
