Certainly, chess sets forth the male (king) being superior to the female (queen), perpetuating centuries-old gender discrimination. Moreover, even in the sexist medieval past, the death of the king would not be the end of the kingdom because the queen would take over. But in chess, the queen is of an entirely different status than the king, no more able to run the kingdom than the lowliest pawn.
It's hard to see why a book like Huckleberry Finn should be banned for using racial terms (in an attempt to show that the racism was wrong!), while a game that assumes the inferiority of women is allowed in our public schools.
