Thread: Twin Cobra

  1. KT2 was disappointing in some ways, but still a solid game. Not nearly as good as Takumi's later efforts, though (Takumi is a Toaplan splinter, btw)

I love the arcade version and detest the NES port. The gameplay in the NES one just doesn't gel as decently for me, and bullets don't contrast with the background as sharply here. Now Twin Cobra on NES is a decent port given the 8-bit limitations. When I tried that I felt for a moment, "If only this developer and not Software Creations had done Sky Shark!".

    Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

  3. I loved Tiger Heli on the NES, but I never really got into Twin Cobra...I remember the Genesis version was pretty bad...
Right, because if anything validates the existance of a handheld piece of shit, it's taking those shitty handheld games and placing them on a screen big enough so that the inherent flaws of the software is visible to all humans. Including Ray Charles.

  4. The Genesis version of TC is very ugly and the music is dulled out, but the gameplay wise it's pretty much the same game as the coin op.

  5. I hate the way the power ups run away up the screen in Twin Cobra though. They almost ruined the game entirely with that "feature."

  6. Kyuukyokyu Tiger 2 has the absolute most cheesiest J-metal soundtrack I've ever heard. "Oooooh peeeeiru raidaa! Oooohh never forget!" Surely it's worth it for that.

I've got the original for the PC Engine too tho, and it definitely kicks the sequel in the head seven ways to Sunday. Absolute classy shoot 'em up. Probably the best of that style of shmup by my reckoning.
