Thread: Do you think that the Dreamcast is the best console in this generation?

  1. NO

It could have been, but its all but dead.

I LIKE it more than other consoles in this generation, but...

  2. I Bought the system, the games, the wacky, but perfect peripherals, from North America Day one. I knew then, as I know now.... If more people had been there for it, things would have very different today.

It could have been great, it had all it needed to be the greatest, except the love...
Only you can stop sig pollution.

  3. Grin Oui

Yeh, I'd say so. The number of all-time classics on Dreamcast is already legendary.

I realise that one day I may have more PS2 than Dreamcast games. For me PS2's great strength is that it has become the home of so many wonderful niche titles. It will be tough to for it to catch Dreamcast when it comes to top notch "11/10" type games however. You never know, they're both great IMO.

Xbox and Gamecube leave a lot to be desired and do not even factor. I don't even think they'd challenge either even if you combined their libraries.

  4. Still the best in certain genres, yes, though in others it's being surpassed by the current consoles. But that's not unexpected.

In terms of fighting games, the Dreamcast is still bar-none my console of choice.

  5. If you had asked this question last year, I would have said the Dreamcast, but in the last year, the PS2 has really started to shine.

The PS2's library of RPG's is starting to grow, rather quickly with titles like Dragon Quarter, Disgaea, Hack, and the upcoming Xenosaga 2.

It's starting to see a few old school shooters with the future release of Metal Slug 3 and past releases like Contra:SS, Mobil Light Force 2 and REZ.

Other great and unique titles for the system include: Ico, Ring of Red, Vice City, Shinobi, Virtua Fighter 4:Evo and Devil May Cry.

I have a feeling, that by the time the PS2 has sold it final units, it will have a library equal to that of the PSX and become another all time favorite amongst gamers.

  7. no.

  8. No. For me the only thing DC has going for it are tons of 2D fighters and shooters that none of the other consoles have. In any of the other genres the other 3 consoles have outdone it.

  9. In terms of hardware design, yes. It's a sexy little unit that packs a ton of power into a tiny amount of space. In that regard it's the unXbox.

No in that there are now a ton of great reasons (games, of course) to own the PS2. So "no" overall.

  10. I'd say no, since KOTOR is on the XBox.
Right, because if anything validates the existance of a handheld piece of shit, it's taking those shitty handheld games and placing them on a screen big enough so that the inherent flaws of the software is visible to all humans. Including Ray Charles.
