Thread: Do you think that the Dreamcast is the best console in this generation?

  1. DC=best system ever.

  2. Xbox 360 I

Hmmm...for myself, I'm going to have to say yes. It delivered more than enough games that I still continue to play and still has games trickling out. The PS2 comes in second with more games, but less of which I actually play anymore. The GC and Xbox are somewhere in the backseat.

  3. If I couldn't play PSone games on my PS2 then yes.

  4. Be warned... this is the question that St. Peter asks when you're trying to get into the pearly gates.

And trust me, the answer isn't "no"...

That's the best post anybody could possibly make in this thread...

wow, so thats the question that gets me then. anyhow, no, it is an exceptional system, but its premature death makes it feel incomplete. There were a large number of games i wanted to play and if fact purchased the system for that promptly got canceled, and, like it or not, it really never had a particularly strong rpg library. I loved skies, and tolerated grandia 2, but domestically(and i generally dont play import rpg's, since i cant read japanese), there were not a lot of other quality rpg's for the system. So no, the x-box and GC already have put out more must have games for me, so it is not the strongest system of this generation. It was a wonderful system that i still play, but best?..nope.

  7. I'd love to say yes, but almost every major game either has a superior port or sequel on another system now. But in its time, I definitely liked it more than I like any system now, and it's still the only console with native vga output.

I think I'm going to have to abstain from answering...does that mean I end up in purgatory?

But all the DC ports/sequels are spread out among the three current consoles.

The Dreamcast is my favorite system. Hands down.

But... it is not the best system of this generation.

Yeah, but I and alot of people here have all three (although unless F-Zero knocks my socks off, I'll have a Gamecube for sale). I guess what I'm saying is that you can't say "Dreamcast ruled because it had game X" because most of the time, another system has a better version.

Of course, it was also basically the alamo of 2D (GBA and its 1994 visuals don't count), so there's plenty of times you can't say that as well.

Toss in "of this generation" after "favourite system", and that pretty much nails it.
