Thread: Dots on the PS2

  1. News Dots on the PS2

I was over at my friend's house and he was teliing me about dots on his PS2. So he popped in FFX and there were dots all over the screen as he played. Very weird. Popped in Madden 2004 and same thing, dots on the screen while you played. Any one ever hear about anything similar? I told him just to get a new PS2.

  2. Has he seen Doc Hollywood, by chance?

  3. Is it hooked up through a VCR? Could be some DVD protection kicking in... Also, are all the cables hooked up tight? I know my nephews PS2 has a broken multi-out port, so sometimes you gotta jiggle the a/v cord so the signal gets from the PS2 to the tv.

  4. Is it "dot crawl" on the edges of contrasting colors, or is it literally dots all over the whole picture?

  5. I'm with cka on this. If the PS2 is connected through the VCR that might be effecting the video. Something in VCRs interferes with PS2's DVD playback, though I'm not sure if that's movie DVD only, or if it includes games as well.

  6. I doubt its macrovision, that just messes with the color balance and brightness levels.

sounds more like electrical interference in the video signal... Using a RF adapter(puke) maybe?

I run my PS2 through the front A/V ports of my VCR and have never seen, what he's talking about. I've even tried a DVD out on it and did not have any problems. Sounds like his video driver may be taking the dump. My Dreamcast one did and the color texturing in polygon games went out of whack.

Really? Every single time I've tried to watch a DVD while the PS2 was hooked up through the VCR it's been unwatchable. The color fades, goes to black and white and the picture jumps up and down.

That's standard copy protection found in most (and all recent) DVD players. So you can't tape a DVD movie you rent.

It's usually the same... the picture keeps fading in and out, usually going to a black screen.

I thought everyone knew about that.
