Thread: Simpsons Hit and Run *official*

  1. I should have specified cel shaded BGs there, sorry about that. Still, I'm glad they stuck with one visual style throughout the game. The 3D look of the characters reminds me of the treehouse of horror episode that used it.

  2. I got this game. It's great fun.

I'm a huge Simpsons fan and while the driving gets repetitive, it's still a lot of fun.

All the voices and stuff makes it awesome though.
    I'm really enjoying it.

  3. I've played the game some more, I am in Marge's level now. The game has a lot of little problems. The platforming parts have so-so control. There are a lot of graphics glitches, but like the lacklustre graphics - none of the problems are a big deal. The game does get a bit boring after a while, but it's still enjoyable enough to play. It's a perfect rental IMO.

It reminds me of Super Runabout for Dreamcast.

I think the problem may be that it's easy to make a cel-shaded game, but that it might be hard to make the cel-shading look like the actual show.

    I dunno, just a theory.

It wasn't a problem in Auto Modellista.

  4. Alright, I am sick of this game now. I am on the 6th level (Bart again, after Apu). It just starts to get way way way too tedious and the further into the game you get the more bugs and problems there are. In the 6th level there are horrendeous framerate problems. I don't usually care about framerate much, but it's so bad it gets to the point of being unplayable on the mission where you have to chase Prof Frink.

Also, the money collecting you need to do on Apu's level is super annoying as are the deceiving arrows. I don't know - it's still a decent game and a bit of fun, but after a few days of playing I am pretty sick of it. If I actually paid money to buy it I'd be cross, but as a rental it's still a decent game and in spite of all the problems I'd give it a "C".

  5. sggg, maybe not for you, but I had trouble judging distances between vehicles in that game. Found out my copy of Hit and Run was sent out Friday, so I should get it soon.

  6. I bought the 3rd season boxset instead of this. The controls are just as clunky, but the graphics are much better and there's far more of those wacky Simpsons references, plus it was $15 cheaper.

  7. I'm really pleased where this went towards the end. All I'm going to say is that the game isn't over at level 6.

  8. Finished it in time to return it with no fine.

Green, you are right about level 7. I went back to play after reading your post. It was indeed a very cool idea and well executed.

I still stand by my earlier comments however, the game is a "C". It was fun.. but repetitive and buggy. I am glad I played it but glad I didn't buy it too.

The worst problem was the framerate in the last few levels. My goodness, I have never ever experienced a game that bad, well, aside from PC games when your computer is below the minimum requirements.

I bet the full-screen flicker & shimmer is present in all versions.

After reading SGGG's comments, I'm glad I returned my rental early. I have a lower tolerance for gameplay frustration than the rest of you. *whew*

  10. Rented it the other day, I must say, I like it.

I wouldn't pay 40 for it, but it's worth 20 bucks for sure.

Best part is Ralph Wiggum counting down to start a race: "6...12....1....go!".

    8/10.

The Hidden cars are pretty dope as well.

With Homer's Rocket Car, I shot over that flaming mass near the Tomacco field and flew in the air halfway across the map.

Marge's ATV is really fast and turns great, but hit one thing and you are stopped dead in your tracks.

Dunno what it is for Bart, but Lisa has a rocket-boat on wheels thing.
