I could tell that from the TV spots. It's already failed.

That actually changed the opinion of the audience I was with. When she grabbed the sword and went flying everyone expected that to be the end and for him to fall over. One of the people there yelled out, "That better not be the end!" Then he stood up, turned around, and when his head fell off people actually cheered. It went from what would have been plain out and out bad to good cheesy.
The transition effect was poorly executed. I say this because the head sometimes 'stalled' during the transformation for about 1/2 a second, but that is a lot.
I disagree. I think the stalling and chunky movements were what gave it all its style and made it look cool. If it had been smoothed out it would've taken away its visual flair, the choppiness really made it look a lot more painful and like the bones were actually shifting.
He should be so fuckin powerful but he got his ass wrecked by some old dude.
Movies tend to make more sense if you actually pay attention to what's going on.

Personally, I pretty much agree with Despair spot-on here, going double with Lucian needing to fight to finish that sub-plot. The movie was well done from a visual standpoint and had plenty of that sexy walking I love (whenever Selene walked through the vampire house and when the female elder was walking through the train) and I didn't have too much of a problem with the acting. The dialogue and story setup was pretty bad and if the fights had been better I could've ignored that. My main gripe is that the final battle featured one of the things I hate in fight scenes: constant falling in the water. Anytime there's any decent sized puddle or body of water near a fight scene, there's going to be twenty damn shots of people splashing in water. It's annoying, over-used, never looked good in the first place, and gets in the way of seeing what's happening. Movie companies: Stop it.

Pimp shot: The hybrid tossing Viktor across the room and being so damn fast he slammed the vampire against the same wall before the recoil even kicked in.

Regarding the RE2 teaser: The most clever movie teaser I can remember. Pure fucking genius, whether or not you want to see the movie.

Regarding HotD movie: I think it's going to be a so-bad-it's-good sort of flick, enjoyed in the same way I enjoyed Spy Kids 3D. So I'm looking forward to it.

  3. using the word enjoy (no matter the context) and spy kids in the same sentence or thought....let alone right after one another just makes my skin crawl.....

  4. I thought the story was cool as hell. I also thought the werewolves were bad ass. How come no one has mentioned how big of pussies the vampires were portrayed as? Besides Victor, the only thing they did was shoot their gun and run like bitches. How come we didn't see any, and I mean any vampire powers on display? It REALLY took away from the movie alot. Besides that, I really enjoyed it.

  5. The RE2 trailer was awesome. I didn't even know it was a trailer (well I did because of its positioning, but the beginning made me doubt it).

Mech: Viktor was killing the hybrid before Selene stepped in. So obviously the hybrids aren't as powerful as they're made to seem. I realize Viktor is a powerful Vampire, one of the most powerful, but what's-his-name was pretty much owned after they fell to the puddle area.

I don't know about the face split. It was definitely well-done. But I just didn't like the whole concept. It was like something out of a cartoon or something with the vampire getting up and having to look in the mirror to realize his head was missing. It seems silly to me. But it was done well for what it was.

Agreed. We should petition the upper management to disallow Mech Deus the ability to do it again. It's really a matter of board integrity here.

  6. I just saw the movie and it was good. The action scenes were good not great, but nothing to complain about. The transformers where better for me, because the CGI shit just makes it fake. The character I like the most was Lucian. I really felt for him. I don't know why, but for some reason, Kate is hot to me now.

The movie is good enouph to see.

  7. Saw it today. Not as good as I'd hoped it would be, but certainly not as bad as many are painting it out to be.

    My gripes are:
    1. The romance angle seems rather forced, as I didn't see one reason why Selene fell in love with Michael, or a scene that showed this. All I saw was her looking at the bad digital picture, the blonde vamp saying he was attractive based on said bad digital picture, and then the blonde vamp accusing her of liking him. Other than that, nothing.
    2. The guys who played Kraven and Viktor. Awful. Just awful. Gerard Butler, though he's already played a vamp in another picture, would have been much better as Kraven, and anyone else in the world would have made for a better Viktor. When he was all old and ugly, it was okay, but when he was revitalized, he looked too pathetic.
    3. Some of the fight scenes were pretty weak. The gun battles were okay, but the hand to hand stuff was just poor, and certainly not up to the standards set by movies such as Blade, Matrix, and Equilibrium. And for an action film, it didn't have a whole lot of it.

    On the plus side:
    1. KATE BECKINSALE IS HOTTT!!! Jesus H Christ, she puts most other women to shame, even Trinity. Good lord, I am in love (or lust, take yer pick).
    2. The film was fairly consistant and it actually tried to tell it's story, and not just shove it through. And, the story was actually pretty good. A bit trite, but still better than most.
    3. Some of the action was pretty good. Kate looked very convincing as a shooter, and the guns themselves sounded powerful. I also liked the fake "liquid ultraviolet" and silver nitrate bullets.
    4. Wonderful lighting and perfectly grimy locations.

This is the perfect setup for a sequel, and with as much as this film has made this opening weekend, a sequel is virtually assured. Hopefully next time they'll get more money and a better director. Kurt Wimmer would be perfect.

And, let me say again, Kate Beckinsale, I lubs you lots!!

Skill vs. Brute force. As far as the movie told, the hybrid (since I can't remember his name) had never been in a single fight in his entire life and is going up against someone who led a dominant species during a violent age. Their power levels were comparable but the hybrid didn't know what the hell he was doing beyond instinct (most of which seemed to be the werewolf side). Give him a few years of training and the fight would have been much more lopsided in the hybrid's favor.

  9. I totally agree with Mechdeus assesment of Hybrid skills. Michael was just regular human, and while the transformation and blood mixture awakened his primal side, he still was seriously lacking fighting skills and experience. Viktor on the other hand was one of few strongest vampire leaders, was a warrior for centures and definately knew how to handle himself in the fight. Plus I think that he wasnt even at his full strenght yet, since it was just few days after resurrection, and if this fight would have taken place later, he would have been even more powerful and deadlier.

Yes, Even though it did leave me somewhat dissapointed, I will welcome the sequel. I just hope they get more talented director. I doubt that would be Whimmer, since he has his own vampire action project to work on, but just get someone who can stage action better.

  10. Saw it last night. Personally, I liked it. I mean, it was a TOTAL rip off of the original Blade, but for what it was, I thought it was enjoyable. The action scenes were well-done and the plot was pretty good. Nothing amazing, but I wasn't dissapointed, either, mainly because my expectations were kinda low based on all the negative things I was hearing about it. The ending leaves it wide open for a sequel.

Saw the Kill Bill and Resident Evil: Apocalypse trailer before the movie started. Both look good, though the RE:A traier was just a teaser that was in the form of an Umbrella commercial.
