Thread: Silent Hill: THE MOVIE

  1. Yuck Silent Hill: THE MOVIE

Silent Hill is on its way to the silver screen, publisher Konami announced today. Producer Samuel Hadida and Davis Films have picked up the rights to the popular horror adventure series and signed director Christophe Gans, of Brotherhood of the Wolf and Crying Freeman.
"Silent Hill is a groundbreaking game with an atmosphere that has mesmerized millions of gamers all over the world - it is scary and clever," said Gans. "I am very proud to be associated with this game."

Though the announcement omits any mention of budget or scheduling details, Konami staff will apparently be involved in the film's production. Konami staff will oversee script development, assist with the design of the film's human and monstrous cast, and collaborate on soundtrack composition.

Konami's announcement also mentions that it is pursuing film deals for other videogame franchises, which naturally gives rise to speculation regarding many different possible projects. We'll keep an eye out for news of such in the near future.

Excellent news. I like Ganz, he has very cool sense of style. And hopefully he will keep movie version of SH to its dark, disturbing and creepy roots.

Coolest thing I've read in a while.

Konami staff will ... collaborate on soundtrack composition.

    Awesome!

  4. This better not be rated PG-13 and filled with "hip" teenagers. I always thought the Silent Hill storyline would make a wonderful horror movie if handled right.

  6. I'm happy to hear this, because I've always thought Silent Hill would be better suited as a film. The games are good, but I think their visual style is much more effective than their gameplay.

WTH is Davis Films? Despair, you heard of them?

Cristophe Gans is a good director. Hopefully he'll have a worthy script, budget, and cast.

Other film franchises, eh? A Contra film would have a lot of potential.

Good. As long as Kurt Russel, or Hayter plays Sanke.

If they downplay this like they did RE, I'm gonna... do something... something...

At least I'm hoping it's based on the first game. I really wanted to see the story hit the big screen, but I'll be guessing they're going to pull a "side story" route that part 2 took.

I don't think I'd like to see that.

  10. Well obviously the source material is really good, but I can't imagine a movie based on this franchise being any better or scarier than the game itself. And I always appreciated the really serious, adult tone of the game but I don't know if that's possible right now in a videogame adaptation.

I will hope for the best with everyone else though
