Thread: Breakdown

  1. I'm trying. I'm really trying. But I'm still stuck fighting those two guys in the burning building. Now, I appreciate a good challenge, but this is just downright masochistic. No matter what I do, they surround me, either because of the clunky control or what, but I can't get away, I either end up in the middle of fire, or being charged by both of them at the same time.

I want to play more of this game but not if it's going to be more of this. I want to like this game but I don't think it's going to work.

  2. hmmm. are you using the block function? (sorry didnt page back)

i just ran past the hall where they were and let them follow. i didnt use the lock on. i just picked the closest one and started bashing away, when he went down i went at the other one, then repeat untill dead. a couple of good combos and some blocking and you should be all set.

i pass them in like 2-3 tries. they can give you a real good pummeling in short order if you dont take them out though.

it is a challenging game though. lots and lots of deaths and continues are part of the process. good luck.

im having lots of fun with it so far. for 20$, im quite happy.

I think between yesterday and today, I'm nearing 20 tries, if not there already. Yeah, I'm blocking plenty, but you can't always be guarding, and clicking the stick down to guard is definitely kind of awkward. The first one I attack usually I get locked on to, and the time he falls, the second one is usually attacking me before I'm done with a combo. I try to fight off that one, the other one gets up and takes me down. Whenever one gets me with a shoulder charge, it's over. They then proceed to gangrape me and it's over.

As much as I like this game's fighting engine, it completely falls apart when you face more than one opponent. It's kind of embarassing for Namco, but I seem to be the only one who's having a serious problem with it.

I'm going to keep trying, but I get the feeling that none of this will ever pay off. Yeah, everyone says when the game is good, it's good, but up until this point, it's just been a miserable, frustrating mess. I spend an hour or so shooting people and hiding from T'Lans, and when I can finally fight back, I get ganged up on and dropped over and over and over.

Blah. I wonder if I can even get the $20 I paid for it back if I try to sell it back to a place that's asking $50 for it new. I don't see things getting any better. Maybe this isn't my kind of game.

Actually, I think that was Namcos intention, as it's trying to be a combat "simulator" almost. What I mean is irl it's much easier to fight one opponent, fighting more than one attacker gets much more difficult.

It seems like they tried to do the same thing in the game.

Or not, who knows, just my theory.

If you're where I think you are, then you don't actually have to fight those guys. In fact, after finally beating them (yes, it took me a gazillion tries as well) and realizing what I was supposed to do there, I suspect that Namco didn't intend for the player to defeat those two T'lan even though the solution is far from intuitive. Check this thread (page 4 or so?) or the Gamefaqs walkthrough for the the solution, get past that stupid part, and start enjoying the game.

Note: There is more than one part in the game that unquestionably requires you to run your ass off, even after you're reasonably powered up. And it's never obvious at first that you're supposed to run.

  6. Awesome. After a bit of running like hell, I was able to progress, and I've played another hour or so past that point, and I'm really enjoying the game a lot. Thanks, Prince Planet. I'm glad I didn't get (too) discouraged because it seems like there's a lot more fun to be had, and the action movie feel is going to only get better. That scene with the ledges outside was pretty slick, and the helicopter getting blown up on the roof and the ensuing shootout was awesome. Blocking bullets also makes hand to hand combat twice as awesome.

Ha! Good for you! It's a shame that some people gave up after the potentially frustrating (and not especially exciting) early parts of the game. There's still a lot more in store for you, and you WILL enjoy beating the living hell out of your enemies...at least, when you're not getting your ass kicked.

Again, check out the move list posted earlier, as there are a whole bunch of cool and effective combos.

    BWAHAHAH! DIE BITCHES!! DIE!!!

    That felt good.

Problem: the next part (very close to the end, I presume) is ULTRA freaky. When they're in the mood, Namco are geniuses.

  9. Haha.

I kept thinking on that part "you're seriously going to make me fight more guys...this sucks".

My problem with the game was more about control issues, than with replaying the same parts over and over. If it at least controlled well, and it didnt lead to most times I died, I would have definately gotten further into it.
