girls named, kelly, ashley, and megan. they're all so damn typical.
Why is it that we should leave political discussions to the old farts and baby boomers? We shouldn't man, young people should be more involved and if that means college kids talking politcs, despite it annoying you (I can somewhat see how this is possible) then I'm all for it. I heard that elderly people are the ppl who turn out to vote the most, ppl our age the least - should be the other way around.Originally Posted by Hero

People who put zero's after a decimal, like 1.300.
Well, stay away from colleges then.Originally Posted by arjue

I really hate that.
Wah!
Show me your guts move, my man!
Nothing but more guts can beat gutsman!
hey everyone, he really hates that.
Ummmm..... You need those zeros. 1.300 means something significantly different than 1.3. When you write 1.300, it means you know for certain that those last two digits are 0. When you write 1.3, it means you have no idea what the hell the hundreths and thousandths places are. Could be anything. Here's an example:Originally Posted by arjue

You cannot say that 7/5 = 1.4 because you have no idea if you're dealing with 7.4/4.8, 6.9/5.3 etc. Could be anything. Point being, you need those zeros.![]()
edit: I'm in nerd mode right now, so I feel like taking this one further...
You have a slightly different problem on the other side of the decimal point. Look at the number 1000 for example. Do you know the hundreds, tens, and ones are 0 exactly, or are they unkown? As far as you can tell, you only know the thousands. so.... 1000/47 = 20
But what if you really do know the other places? Say you know the hundreds and tens, but not the ones.... 1.00 x 10^3 so.... (1.00 X 10^3)/47 = 21.3
If you know all three places.... (1.000 x 10^3)/47 = 21.28
Then of course, if you know the first decimal position, you can just add another zero and can go back to 1000.0/486 = 21.277
There, I'm done with sig figs for today.
And I'm talking in an engineering or similar setting here.
Those football players do in fact have a very serious major. Football. At least at the major football schools. It might not say that on paper, but make no mistake they are in college to learn football. And there's nothing wrong with that. Why would it bother you that they don't care about other aspects of the college? Does a science major give a shit about the history classes he has to take as part of a graduation requirement? Maybe, maybe not. Just like the football player may or may not care about his other classes.Originally Posted by diffusionx
And as for not paying.... They pay just as much as other students and more. Much more. Again, at least at the major football schools. Do you have any idea how much money those football programs bring in? Money that the college gets? So yes, those players directly result in more money for the school, just like a regular student paying tuition directly results in more money for the school.
As for the athletes complaining that they don't get paid.....If you made millions of dollars for somebody else, but only got to see about $50,000 of it in return, wouldn't you complain?
So.... ummmmm.... what pisses me off?
Low bitrates. Crappy mp3s, barely watchable satalite and digital cable TV pictures....it's everywhere.
