Thread: Rush Limbaugh -- racist comment?

That's not true at all. He *always* takes calls that disagree with him vehemently. What he means by "make him look good" is that he takes them head on and debates them, taking their points one by one and shooting them down.

Oh, and the National Association for the Advancement of Fat People (NAAFP) would like to have a talk with you because of your slandering remarks regarding their minority group.

  2. I'm not into football, so I can't argue the merit of whether Rush was technically right or not. But the fact that he just couldn't apologise it what makes me respect him that much less.

No, it wasn't racist, or at least not intended to be. That is plain to see. But it was insensitive to say the least, hurtful (even if it was the truth) to the person involved, inappropriate for where he was and he didn't back up his argument (from what I gather). If he just apologised, I think this would have passed without too much controversy, he could have remained at ESPN, and people would have gotten off his back.

But this goes to show you how stubborn people can be. Just be the bigger man and apologise.

  3. No, what he means by "make him look good" is he picks and chooses people who are incoherent or idiotic to be the voice of the opposition.

If you call letting them speak for a couple minutes, then telling them everything they said is wrong without giving them the chance to respond, a debate then I guess you're right.

Whenever an actual debate is about to start he hangs up on them and moves to the next call, which is bound to be a "Mega Dittos" moron.

I have nothing against fat people, only Rush.

Besides, I'm bordering on being one myself.

Huh? So just because I don't know much about the NFL (didn't say football - I said the NFL. I come from Nebraska, where football = Cornhuskers), I can't judge the knowledge of somebody else? What kind of idiotic logic is that? I've heard him talk football, and it is clear that ne knows a hell of a lot about the NFL. Plus, I'm not the only person who has said this about him - a lot of people have.

Politics aside, the guy is an entertainer, knows how to speak, and how to keep people listening. But hey, if you dislike the guy, it's much easier just to call him an idiot and not bother with finding out if the guy has any value to him.

I've heard callers on his show that disagreed with his points, sometimes even disagreed with everything about him.

Can't speak for everyone, but why would I want to find any value in someone I dislike? I, for one, am not entertained. But then again he caters to the severe right-wing, a lot of who frequent TNL apparently.

I can say that Warren Moon is a much better quarterback, then the current black quarterbacks playing the game, yet he recieved very little in media coverage. How many commercials do you recall seeing Moon in?

Warren Moon had to play in the CFL, because nobody wanted a black quarterback leading their NFL team. The guy destroyed the pac-10 passing records and yet did'nt get drafted into the NFL.

I can say that Rush is probably right in his comments. The NFL has been dominated by white quarterbacks, whether they were more talented or not. McNabb, Culpepper and McNair are all solid quarterbacks, but they have yet to prove themselves as being more than slightly above average quarterbacks that have a system that fits their talents.

McNabb has'nt faired well this season, because the Eagles have forgotten what got them where they were last year. A solid rushing team, with an average passing game set up by the run. It's the same system that Parcells used in NY with the Giants. Phil Simms was an average quarterback with a strong running game behind him, thus opening up a solid passing game.

Well, I, for one, am not right wing. I certainly don't agree with many of the things that Rush says. (Some thing, though, I do agree with.) Or are you just calling a lot of people "right wing" simply because they are defending the guy?

Even if I don't agree with many of the things he says, I'm open minded enough to listen to what he has to say. If I'm not willing to listen to what he has to say - I mean, honestly LISTEN to him - then I've got no right to bitch or complain about him. Same with everybody else.

And in watching him on ESPN, were you already pre-judging him because you don't like his political views? Maybe you weren't, but I'm willing to bet that you were. Watching him on ESPN, you should judge him on how he does in that position, not what he thinks about Democrats or anything like that. For example, I think Martin Sheen and Johnny Depp are idiots on a lot of their political views. But I still very much enjoy them as actors.

    That's my guess.

Either that or just blanket anyone who doesn't agree with him. Works wonders.
