Thread: Ontario Election

  1. At least you can vote NDP federally. It's Bloc or Liberal here.. which is weird. Our MP is none other than Gilles Duceppe. The Bloc has some good left leaning politics but I don't support their raison d'être. The Liberals are so-so but Martin is scary and they are not nearly left enough. I wish the NDP was more viable in Québec. It would be nice to cast a vote for a party in the Socialist International. Well, I can't vote anyway... but you get the point.

    Do you guys have any thoughts on the Action Party?

    Well, according to a press-release at the top of their site, they're proposing to merge with the NDP, so it doesn't matter what I think now

    I agree 100%. Vote for who you believe is the best candidate, not for the lesser of two evils..... I guess the only way I would not do that is if it was a tight race and my vote could stop someone like the fucking evil Alliance.

    It's also a little-known fact that you can hand in a blank ballot and declare a "vote of non-confidence". You're still voting, but it gets counted as a vote that you don't support any of the candidates.
    That's an excellent and crucial aspect of a real democracy, in my opinion. No-one should ever have to choose between candidates they don't like. It makes the same statement that not voting at all does (which is what I did in the US, I would not even take part in that sham) but it makes it official.

  5. I wonder what would happen if everyone actually voted for who they truly wanted to win. It seems like everyone just votes for, like sggg said, the lesser of two evils.

  9. Wow - I'm so disconnected with Ontario now that I forgot there even was an election this year. This kind of makes me wish I could have taken part - Hawaii's had two elections in the past year but of course I'm not able to vote.

    When I went back to Toronto this summer to visit, it was surprising how hated Eves had become. Even my 8-year-old cousin was bad mouthing him.
