Thread: Daikatana

  1. All of you who say it isn't purely awful: Were you playing with the sound turned off? That alone drove me mad... that robot noise... oh dear god... flashbacks... *twitchshuddervomit*

    Horrible... so very, very horrible.

  2. Does anybody know how the N64 version turned out? I was always curious about that.

  3. Is omikron any better? If so, DC or PC?

  4. The first half of Omikron (PC) really grabbed me. The story and atmosphere were right up my alley. Then it went to hell so fast my head spun. Went from GOTY to biggest letdown of all-time for me.

I actually did play through Daikatana, too. Once patched, it could have been a decent game if the sidekicks weren't completely useless (that and there are a few instant-kill bugs still in the game).

  5. Omikron wasn't all that bad IMO. the music of course is good. the gameplay made me think of a VERY-low budget sci-fi Shenmue.

  6. I'm curious about the Game Boy Color version.

    Has anyone here played it?

  7. I could never get the game to work correctly. It would always crash with a directx error halfway through the first level. I tried to patch it, but the patch crash. I looked at the patch's readme file, and it actually said something like "if the patch looks like its not responding, just leave it. it takes a while.". I left the patch running for an hour before killing it. I'd advise you to stay away.

  8. Gamespot has a pretty good article on the whole story behind the development of Daikatana. Check it out.

  9. Didn't the N64 version come out before the PC release? What are the odds of that happening.

  10. ...I bought Daikatana as a budget-soft at CompUSA years ago. The damn thing is still shrink-wrapped, sitting atop my bookshelf, waiting.

Perhaps I may play this tonight...ehrm...no.
