Sweeping and brassy, bring on the high adventure! (Star Wars)(Skies of Arcadia)
Fast, frenetic! Raise my blood pressure (Wipeout)(anything Techno)(Rockman)
I like quirky bands that nobody hears outside of Japan (Jet Set Radio Future)(many rythym games)
I love cool synthetic instruments used in other music genres besides Techno and industrial. (Panzer Dragoon)
I love Haunting Melodies that steal my breath away (Castlevania)
I love music that follows the actions of the character (Taz-Mania)
I like music to stay in the background until it punctuates the action, or is appropriate to the location (Tomb Raider 1)(Star Wars, Jedi Knight)
Shenmue's insturmental stuff rocks my socks, as does the JGR/JSRF music.

I like many different styles. It depends on what suits the specific game.
I got that one for $15.Originally Posted by Bar81

I have Beatmania, Pop'N Music (HI-PUNK VS GIRL ROCK REMIX FOR LIFE) and Overclocked remixes in my winamp playlist, but thats about it.
Play Guitar Hero //
I have to go with the Casrlevania music, it's just too good at setting the mood. But some of the music from puzzle games (Namely the Puyo Pop series) tends to egt stuck in the ol' noggin. On a kind of sort if but not really related subject, the Berserk anime's OST is constantly spending time spinning in my car's cd player of all places.
This is MY world, I just let you all live in it.

I love babelfish.
MechWarrior 2's sound track was really awesome. I collect movie soundtracks, and it felt right at home with the symphonic scores of Star Wars and such.
Loom is a great one. I loved everything about that game. My personal favorites include Castlevania, Tomb Raider,Soul Reaver.
what would be the choice for the style of music found in most late 80s/early 90s arcade games? That real upbeat make you smile kinda music like in Outrun, Phantasy Star II, Layer Section, etc.
Frog read my mind. Miyauchi/Uwabo-type stuff rules.
Or the type of music found in System Shock 1. It's very electronic but it's not techno/dance-y at all. I can't think of a good name for it.
I'm a big fan of Asian-sounding music as well(Shenmue, Tenchu).
Outside of video games, I'm big into guitar-based music but I find most rock/metal stuff in games sucks ass.
Almost every game soundtrack with vocals sucks too.
