Right on. Forgot about MW2...awesome soundtrack; I still have the game since the audio is in redbook format. MW3 was good too, but not nearly as classic as its predecessor.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the rock/metal from GGX/X...that stuff is rad in the way that only rad things are.

    How about "fucking awesome"?

SS's music is really, really weird in places. It has some sort of "iMuse" thing going on where it has variations depending on what's happening, but some of the changes are really, really strange. Little electronic hums and warbles all over the place, almost random sounding. It's such a perfect soundtrack for that game.

So yeah, I find I'm typically a fan of the "fucking awesome" genre.

Yeah, I think that describes it.

Do you know what SS1 musician Greg LoPiccolo is up to now? Last I heard he worked on Frequency for PS2.

Wow - reading this makes me remember that I played System Shock before I got a sound card. It's one of my favourite PC games ever and I still don't know what it sounds like!

JSRF rocks, aside from that irritating MSG song.

Frequency is the last thing I saw his name on, over at MobyGames. Checking out his entry, it reminds me that I want to replay Terra Nova soon. More awesome music in that one, though I'm not sure he was the composer.

Heh, just found a band he was in in the early 90s.

Matt: That's the one good song in JSRF. :P Extra sugar, extra salt baby.

  6. most of my fave music comes from the dragon warrior, mega man, and final fantasy series of games. i have allot of other random rpg osts thrown in here an' there. i like allot of different things, but i listen to mostly the slow stuff when i'm drawin' or doin' homework.

fukk yeah, mutha fukka! i really love all the hard thumping sounds of old arcade music too. i love the ray force/storm/crisis series music so much. zuntata kicks ass. the stuff yack did for border down is great. gotta find that soundtrack.

  7. off the top of my head, i'd have to say a couple of my favourites that haven't been mentioned would be...

ikaruga: fantastically evocative themes, tightly wound with the action on screen.

    and

    interstate '76: great old-school low-down dirty 70's cop-show funk.

the phantasy star games always had pretty good music as well.

  8. I really love the new rendition of the Zelda overworld theme from Soul Calibur 2 as well as the orchestral CD of Ocarina of Time. Crystal Chronicles' soundtrack isn't too bad either (especially 'Promised Grace').

  9. This is a neat thread.

  10. I like all types of soundtracks, but the best example (outside of music games, of course) I can think of music enhancing a game is Quantum Redshift. Get some pumping techno, get to the highest speed setting, and turn off the weapons. Insane.
