The WWE has an unprecedented three console titles coming out in the space of two months, each on a different system and each independent of the other. Wrestlemania XIX came out first and made a nice little name for itself. Smackdown!: Here Comes the Pain is still ahead of us, and it boasts the PlayStation advantage. But what off the neglected middle child - the one with few if any television ads and no apparent love from publisher THQ? It's obviously low on the card, but is that because it is an up-and-comer biding its time or because it is a bum that will probably never break out of the preliminary ranks?
Create a superstar isn't what's lacking compared to everything else. Sure, it's not as powerful as Smackdown's, but it's still pretty good. Also, the create an entrance is REALLY deep and you can do a lot, plus rip your own entrance music.
The Create a Superstar is good. It's not super deep, but you can make some decent-looking characters. The main problem with it is that you are asked to spend too much time using trial-and-error to figure out what you're getting. For example, when selecting a taunt, you are presented with a long list of non-descriptive names. Yes, instead of "Bang! Bang!", "Mysterious Stance," or even "Guts Pose," you get "Taunt 1," "Taunt 2," etc. It's a little bit harder to keep track of what you like as you go through the list. Similarly, the original entrances are labeled "Edit 1," etc.
This kind of thing would be more tolerable if you were just creating one guy, but it can slow things down a lot if you are making multiple wrestlers ("Let's see, was the DDP-type entrance "Edit 4" or "Edit 12"?). Like I said in the review, this game asks you to take care of loads of things that the programmers should have taken care of.
The create-an-entrance is pretty deep, but most of the entrances don't show off the Titantron at all. An option to control the camera would have been most welcome.
