Post some links to the work you've done for clients then.

I have two clients. One is a catalog thing so it's not online. The other client is a web page and it's not up yet because I'm still working on it.

That's unusual, with my company I always atleast have the clients work-in-progress page up so they can login to take a look at it. When you're charging that type of money, people like to see some type of ROI.

An intranet-based catalog huh? That's cool, what language are you programming in? Do you do the frontend and backend work? Using open source tools?

Just curious as I have my own business, and in this economy $35 and hour is a an above-average wage for "somebody that makes webpages".

Just go five miles due north of where you are and you'll be there.

Well the web page is just barely started. Haven't been working on it but for like a week.

The catalog thing isn't online. It's an actual hold in your hand book of sorts.

No way. $35/hr is less that the average hourly rate most places charge. When we were setting our rates I looked at gobs of places and then undercut 95% of them and still ended up over $35 (tho we give many discounts and are flexible). When I first started as a freelancer 4-5 years ago or I was getting $35 and it was considered pretty cheap even then (not to me tho, I was thrilled). I'd say the average is around $50 and plenty of big time places charge a *lot* more than that. How much do you charge?

    ps. Welcome KK.

$35 an hour freelancing is quite a bit below average, when you consider health benefits and all that (in the US of course ). If you make that as a salary though, you're rocking out.

Freelance vs. fulltime are obviously totally different beasts though.

For my business, we charge quite a bit more, but we always strive to stay competetive. Interested parties are always welcome to contact me in private. *wink*

Icepick, and kittywhatever, I would like to point out as an independant party to this, that the two of you would probably do it hardcore if you met in life.
