Thread: Strange Pie

  1. Papa John's is a national chain, aren't they? They had a lot of them back where I'm from in PA, but there's none here in Boston... No chain pizza at all, that I've seen. Sometimes I could really go for Papa John's or Pizza Hut... and yeah, that chicken alfredo pizza is killer.

As for Chicago-style pizza, you can't do any better than Lou Malnati's. If it wasn't so insanely expensive to ship it, and if it didn't reheat so poorly, I'd be ordering pizzas from them all the time. I consume as much of that stuff as humanly possible every time I'm on the North Shore.

  2. There is no pizza in the world better than the stuff you'll get in New Haven, Connecticut. Within two miles of each other are Sally's, Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, and Modern Apizza. About eight miles from New Haven is Marco Pizzeria, which is the hands-down best evar. They all beat anything I've ever had in NY, including Patsy's and Lombardi's.

There are only a few things which have any business being toppings on a pizza, and BBQ chicken, pineapple, raspberries, peanuts, and hot wing sauce are NOT any of them. Those aren't pizzas. They are pieces of dough with stuff on them. Bread creations. Not pizza.

There's no good pizza out here in CA. I can't wait to visit CT to have some real stuff.

  3. Any and all pizza not from NYC area is a strange strange pie... and not in a good way.

And those pizzarias sell Italian ices too, sggg.

  5. *sigh*

I was thinking about opening up an Italian ice stand here in the summer. I'd surely be a millionaire.

But it would never taste as good as the real stuff.
    Mm...Spumoni Gardens.

  7. Rich, you ever go to New Haven? Next to Pepe's is this place called Libby's, with hand-made Italian ices in an insane number of flavors, all kinds of Italian pastries... oh, so good.

Besides, it's not a complicated recipe.

Can't say I have, but I doubt that it can top any number of the bakaries in Brooklyn. Between Italian bread and cannolis, as well as the homemade ices, I'd be willing to cut off my right testicle to eat some of that stuff.

  10. I put the toppings for strawberry shortcake on a pizza from Papa Johns before, including whipped cream. It was delicious.
