Best Super Mario Bros. game?

Which of the Super Mario Bros. console games is the best? They all rock, but one must rule them all.

I think it's part three. At the time, it was just so huge and full of so much to do that it pretty much owned any game out there. I remember cutting class one day just to pass world 5. I began playing at about 7am as I waited for a friend to come over to walk to school together. I got to world 5 just as he arrived.

We shut off the NES at 9:30 that night.

I love World and I love 64, but SMB3 is my favorite by far. Can't wait until it's out on GBA... hey, when's that due? Now that I have a GBASP, I can enjoy one of my favorite games of all time in public restrooms!

Anyway, yeah... Nothing matches 3 in terms of gameplay, even though I absolutely love playing through all of them. Well, except Sunshine, but whatever. I've been playing SM64 on an emulator lately, because I miss the freedom to pull the N64 out and play it any time I wanted. Maybe I'll have it shipped up to me. As much as I love playing and replaying that game, though, SMB3's gameplay is just kind of timeless.

They're all excellent games, though I feel Sunshine wasn't as good as it should have been... I'd really like to see a new 2D Mario game on GameCube someday.

SMB 3, World, Yoshi's Island, and Mario 64 all amazing games im not sure i could pick one from them

Its a toss up for me between SMB3 and SMW. I still like Super Mario Bros. 2 the most, but I dont think its a better game than either of those.

Part 3 and 4 are awesome but Yozzy Island is just the most polished game ever. They even finally figured out that holding down 'fire' to run fast was complete bullshit and got rid of it.

It's a tough pick between World, Island, and 64. I guess I'll go with Yoshi's Island.

SMB3 gets way too much praise if you ask me. World did everything 3 did but better.

Agreed... Super Mario World is basically Super Mario Bros. 3 with more secrets, larger levels, more levels, and sicker graphics.

Super Mario World is my choice. I never beat Yoshi's Island, to be honest. I think it's a brilliant piece of software, the pinnacle of 2D gaming, but I never completed it.

There will never be another suit cooler than the Tanooki suit in any Mario game, EVAR!!!11 (Even though the hammer suit rules as well.)

I've already said in another thread how I love this game so much, yet refuse to play it. (I had a traumatic experience playing it straight, no warps, and my idiot cousin hit the power adapter right when I was about to defeat Bowser and beat the damn game, resetting the NES.) That doesn't matter, though, as the time I spent with it is still priceless, and I would do it all again.

World is a close second, as I can still go and play it for hours today. But there is just something about SMB 3 that was just, I don't know.......perfect. All the gameplay was done just as well, if not better in World, like NeoZeedeater said. But 3 has something that pushes it beyond all other Marios.

My favorite Nintendo game ever, maybe even of all time.
