I saw the trailers, and it looks iteresting. But I will wait till dvd release to see it.
Surprised not to see any discussion of the Cohen bros movie. Kinda sad not to see anyone in the theatre on the day it came out either. I always love the Cohen's movies, and anything they make, particularly a comedy, is going to be must-see.
Anyway, I enjoyed the movie alot. It was definately a different kind of project for them. It was a screwball romantic coedy. It definately had it's share of great characters and quatable lines like always though, and it definately got alot darker in the second half with some good plot twists. George Clooney put in a great performance. Catherine Zeta Jones was kind of an emotionless bitch, but that was the character. Billy Bob showed up for a short role too.
Anyway, good movie. Any Cohen fans seen it/going to see it?

Based on the long previews it seemed like a good movie... until the romance stuff popped in. Unless its markably different from other cliched romantic comedies, I think I'll pass.
Well, it's a Coen brothers film, it will be different. It does look funny, so maybe I'll rent it.Originally Posted by kabuki
I'm more wary with this movie than any others since I think the brothers are real overrated. O Brother, Where Art Thou? is my favorite of theirs, but even that I don't think I can sit through again for a while thanks to astoundingly bad pacing. Same goes for The Man Who Wasn't There (which is slow and obvious). And I can't believe The Big Lebowski is considered one of the funniest movies ever; it's hideous and stupid beyond belief.
It's easy to say they're overrated when you mention their more recent, well-known, but less-than-stellar releases (still good movies, though). It's easy to say they're underrated when one mentions Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing, and Blood Simple - arguably their best films by far - and no one's heard of them.Originally Posted by Sqoon
I'm seeing Kill Bill today and Intolerable Cruelty tomorrow. I love me some Coens and Zeta-Jones.![]()
Well, they haven't made that many movies at all (what, eight or nine?) and of three of them, one is passable, and two are terrible, that doesn't bode well.Originally Posted by TheGooch
I haven't seen any of their R-rated serious movies, which do seem more interesting (especially Miller's Crossing).
Their next movie I will watch out of curiosity. It's going to be a remake of The Ladykillers, my favorite classic British comedy.
I'm a fan of George Clooney (loved Solaris, Out Of Sight, From Dusk Till Dawn, Confessions Of A Dangerous Mind, and Three Kings), and I really love the Coen brothers (Raising Arizona and O Brother - also with Clooney - are my favorites), so I'm sure this movie will be right up my alley.

"No... Not without incident."
made me sleep.....cept my girl kept waking me up to go with her to the bathroom......sometimes i wonder why i let her drink before movies.
Beleive me, it's anything but a cliched romance. The movie definately takes a turn for the dark side in the third act. And the two leads are about the least romantic characters possible (A divorce lawyer and a gold-digger).Originally Posted by kabuki
Barton Fink and Blood Simple are their only movies I haven't seen, but Miller's Crossing was probably my least favorite thing they did. It was decent, but didn't have any likeable characters, nor a good ending. Story wasn't up to snuff with alot of their others either.Originally Posted by TheGooch
Uh.... Fargo? That movie is tremendous. Even if one does say they are overrated, their good movies are so good that they demand respect. When they score, they score big.Originally Posted by Sqoon
Just because you haven't seen their good movies doesn't mean they're bad.Originally Posted by Sqoon
