I can't imagine not knowing how to pump gas. It's not like riding a bike. You confuse and intrigue me at the same time, diff.![]()
See, I wouldn't consider it a luxury because all the guy does is stick the nozzle in, flip a switch, walk away and return a minute later, and take my ten spot. No window washing, no polite conversation, no offer to sell me porn on the cheap. Just gas and go.Originally Posted by bbobb

I dont remember since its been awhile since I've been there but theres a gas station right off the Woodbridge Mall. I believe its self-serve cuz back in the days, when we finished shopping, we would fill up right there because it was cheaper than NY gas.Originally Posted by diffusionx
i had a friend who worked at a full serve gas station for a few years, he said a little less than half the people tipped. I always tip a $1 when i go there.
Here in NY, full-serve cost more..everywhere. I'll do self-serve as its cheaper and in the long run, it will add up. Its not that hard to pump gas.
1. Open gas tank cover
2. Pay for gas (if credit card), if cash do that first
3. Select grade of gas
4. Life nozzle
5. Insert nozzle to gas tank
6. Squeeze trigger
7. Once done, put nozzle back into holder
8. Complete transaction whether its on the pump itself or the teller
You would think, of all the years that you had someone fill your gas, you would at least know already.
No window washing even? Well then I'd say to hell with the tip... but if I guy did the whole full service thing with window washing and all then they deserve a tip.Originally Posted by kabuki

I can't believe some ppl dont know how to pump gas.... wtf? I knew that shit when I was like 10, I'd always volunteer to do it when my family was stopping at a gas station, I really just liked the smell of gasoline but i didn't tell anyone that.
We dont have full service places in Houston, I've never seen one anyway - but if I ever do happen upon one, I'll tip the guy.
go to oregon.. you cant pump gas.. because they think your stupid,. and gas will fall to the ground, and seep in the ground, and water would be bad, and whole enviroment..
the state of millions of tree hugers..
jeeze, pumping gas is easy as anything. I can't imagine people being that lazy where they don't want to pump their own gas.

I don't know about you all, but I've always used the self-service pump all my life. Here in Florida, I can only think of one place that uses full-service, and that's right next to some old retirement community where people can barely walk.
I've been to New Jersey a couple of times. Even when I'm there, I still pump my own gas, and I argue with the attendees to please leave me alone. How the heck is it illegal to pump you own gas? Are they going to give me a ticket or send me to jail? WTF?
