Thread: tipping at full-serve gas stations

  1. #31
If I get a team of trained technicians running out to my car to service it like it was 1955: tip.

    If not: no tip.

  3. Yes, yes you should tip. Why? Because I work at the full-serve and i just finished my shift tonight.

Theyre's nothing wrong with not tipping, but it's a nice gesture. And I get tipped because i volontarily clean the windows, check the tires, engine fluids, etc. I would say in a normal 6 hour day, i could pull out 30 to 35$ of tip, depending on the rush hours and how the weather is. Tip is rather obligatory in the winter when its 30 below and cars are only lined up for full serve. It's a nice gesture, shows that you care.

Theyre's self and full serve over here but not tipping isnt' taboo, its just preferred.

I'm in and out of a gas station 10X faster when I swipe my card at the pump and pump my own gas. I'd rather not sit at a gas station for any longer than I have to.

  5. good thinking. It's great that you can just pass your debit/credit card so you don't have to wait in line inside.

I grew up in NJ and I hate full service. It takes too long. I swipe my credit card at the pump, fill my tank, and I'm out of there ASAP.

I dunno...I can't remember the first time I pumped gas because it just wasn't a problem. It was like I was doing it all my life.

You mean to say that you pay first?! I remember doing that in Ma, it's hard to fill your tank like that. Oh, and yes, you are supposed to tip the poor shmuck.

I pay via Credit Card at the pump. I dont go inside. I swipe my card, fill my tank, and take my receipt. Here in NY, if you pay in cash, you go to the teller first, hand them the cash (usually $20). Than you go fill your tank. Whatever is left over from the $20, they'll give you the change.

Since there have been conflicting answers, I've decided to go with the above two views. If it is freezing outside and snowing and the attendent fills up my gas / washes my windows with warm water / checks my tires / inspects my fluids / and is generally a hard worker, I shall tip. If not... fuck 'em!

    Thanks for the help guys.
