The only thing I liked about Sam Goody, was the prices of games, after they marked them down. Everything else was way overpriced!

I have no clue why Best Buy bought them out in the first place. It's rediculous to think that you could turn a pofit from their business model. Media Play's are great stores (for the most part) but like most, if not all, of the stores under the Sam Goody model they fail. One of the major reasons for this is their tratment of management. Even their store managers are poorly paid, at arround the $22-30,000 level, section managers don't fare much better than hourly workers, at $15-20,000 a pop, the idea being that you get what you pa for. Given that the Best Buy model is drastically different, especially in terms of pay, I can't begin to see the justification for this. Hell, their stock tanked almost immediatly after buying the chain and they operated at a loss for that entire year. The fact that they managed to keep these stores open for as long as they did is a miracle to say the very least and poor maketing decisions at most.
Good riddance.
Their stores are always empty. I'm amazed they lasted this long.

Suncoast has a good selection of DVDs, although I do agree their prices are usually outrageous.
However, I have to admit that since last Christmas I've found quite a few good buys in the below $15.00 section. That said, my taste in movies is probably different than most. I enjoy the obscure, the bizarre, and the just plain bad.
Perfectly said. Why would I want to buy dvd from Suncoast for $25 when I can have it for $15 in Best Buy??? Or even cheaper from online retailer?Originally Posted by stormy
I swore off Sam Goody after I went there looking for a rap CD in the Manhattan Plaza Mall on 34th St/Broadway about 2 years ago. They were all behind the counter, out of reach of the customers, but every other genre was spread about the store, easily accessible.
When I asked the girl behind the counter why that was, she said, "So people won't steal them".
Granted, I imagine it must've happened before to take this kind of measure, but I find that action to be a paranoid, blanket statement and highly offensive.
As for Suncoast, yeah, great selection, shitty prices.

Best Buy's anime prices used to be exceedingly reasonable, comparable with what you could get it for online without waiting for it to ship or worrying if it would get damaged in shipment.
Then they jacked prices up across the board, I even saw it in action over the course of a few days. I saw the Trigun DVD box set jacked up another $15 after the blasted thing had already been out over a year! Oy...![]()
As for Suncoast stores, I generally avoid them like the plague, but occasionally do stop by one and peruse their selection on the odd chance I'll find a rare or unusual DVD that probably wouldn't otherwise be there had their insane prices not driven off so many potential consumers.
omg TNL epics!
