Thread: Dragonball Z: Legends

  1. Dragonball Z: Legends

Before I start off, if you have some kind of anti Dragonball Z shit to say, keep it out of this thread, unless it's about Legends.

Now, I've heard this game labeled as a sort of Guardian Heroes clone, with 3 on 3 battles that accurately represent the show. Now, after Budokai dissapointed, and Ultimate Battle 22 blows ass, I'm eager for a GOOD DBZ game.

I've heard the Saturn version is the best, any thoughts or opinions?

  2. Guardian Heroes clone? Hell no, not in any way aside from that they both use sprites and require a controller.

This is an interesting game, one that does indeed represent the show quite well but also has no real variety or moves at all. You've got access to a couple attacks which every single character uses, the only differences come in with the displayed graphics when actual damage is dealt.

If you're a DBZ fan then it's pretty cool to recreate the show through story mode, but it doesn't last that long and isn't a good game on its own by any means. The balance bar is a great idea and works well, but differences among the characters would have gone a long way towards making this good.

Don't pay full price and don't expect that much. I enjoyed going through it but haven't really touched it since, it's really one of those "fans only" kinds of games.

  3. Never heard of it, but Budokai 2 is pretty good.

Not the best fighting game ever, but well worth checking out and probably the greatest thing ever for a DBZ fan.

  4. I had the Saturn version that I got years ago for $20. Personally, I thought it was a lot of fun, but I was also under the impression it would be 6 player. I used an FAQ to get the better ratings for the story mode, but I found it was best to just do what I wanted in the fights (you're ranked at how close you get it to the actual fight in the show). I should also point out that I'm in no way a fan of the show, I just had fun playing it.

Yeah, it's definately not a Guardian Heroes clone. But, it probably is one of the best DBZ games out there and that's not saying much. Legends is entertaining the first time around, but you pretty much imitate the same patterns of fighting throughout the whole game. The only plus side to the game is to see the nifty special move clips that each character has. Other than that, it's a whatever game. I'd recommend DBZ 2 on the famicom instead.

  6. I have the Saturn version, and to say this game is a "DBZ simulator" is to give you the best idea of what this game is like. It's not a traditional fighting game, and it's nothing like Guardian Heroes. I can't think of anything else like it. If you like DBZ, it's worth at least $30, but not much more, as it's not exactly an amazing game of any sort.

I'd like to sleep now, but my roommate is a fucking moron. C'est la vie. Then you choke people.

Blah game. Visually it represents DBZ pretty well and covers just about all of the series and has just about every character playable but the gameplay just kills it.

The big problem is that it's the same thing from beginning to end. There's barely any strategy, just mash attack and do your counter attack when an enemy ever lands some lows on you and repeat until your meter is full and watch the sometimes forever long specials. The only breakup is that the amount of people fighting in each battle can change but you can beat them all with the same techs.

It is the best of the 3 PSx DBZ games but the Saturn version of UB22 smokes em all.

  8. Yeah, it's the best DBZ game, but well, they don't have a good track record. It's true that the battles are more along the lines of the things that happen in the show, but the characters are identical (as I recall) outside of things like attack and defense stats, and the fighting itself isn't very interesting after you figure out the combo system, which isn't quite a dial-a-combo system, but it's close.

But yeah, I guess if you put it next to Final Bout or UB22 it's some kind of brilliant masterpiece of game design.
