Thread: Dawn of the Dead : The Remake

  1. Dawn of the Dead : The Remake

With all the buzz(ahem) about the remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre going around, I almost forgot that Romero's classic Dawn of the Dead was under the gun as well. Now, I love a good zombie movie, but I am skeptical about this one. Then again, It can't possibly be as bad as House of the Dead...

    Well, here's hoping.

    Teaser trailer is here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/dawnofthedead/
I'm not a devious man by nature... but when you're unarmed, your tactics might gonna be downright Archimedean.

  2. You know, I recently saw Dawn of the Dead for the first time. I was really looking forward to seeing it since I love zombie movies and I loved Night of the Living Dead. But then I finally saw it, and I personally think that it's rubbish. I could never see what the big deal about the movie was and it was painful to sit through. It was a big disapointment.

So I guess it's easy to say that I'm not looking forward to the re-make, but I'm keeping an eye on it just in case.

  3. Why, all of a sudden, can zombies run and jump and do kung-fu and all of this other stuff in movies?

I dunno, I'll certainly see it, and the trailer doesn't look like total crap. Being a fan of the original, though, I'll just consider it another zombie movie and not necessarily a remake.

I hope the movie is at least a bit serious, and isn't some "big blockbuster horror movie" crap like Jeepers Creapers or all of those other shit horror movies. I'd like to see something along the same lines of 28 Days Later in terms of quality and seriousness given to the genre.
WARNING: This post may contain violent and disturbing images.

  4. Yeah, Whats up with fast, running and jumping zombies? I hope they wont go HOTD route here.

The film itself looks nice, but will it actually have Horror and Gore as the original. I hope it will, otherwise whats the point?

Original is one of the best, if not best Zombie movie ever. It had great atmosphere, story, likable characters and great zombie action.

  5. Well after seeing the trailer I am starting to feel a little bit optimistic. I just don't know what it was about in the original Dawn that rubbed me the wrong way, but I'm hoping that I'll like this one.

And I don't know about the souping up the zombies either, I guess they are trying to spice things up a little. Usually I would say that spicing things up is a terrible idea, but I wouldn't mind a dash of anything added to this one.

Did you see who the Sheriff was in that quick snippit? Mr. Tom Savini.

  6. Really?? I need to watch it again.

Savini was very cool in the original Dawn, and I hope they give him the chance to do fx for the remake.

    Off to rewatch the teaser.

  7. I'm talking really quick snippit. It's in the part where they are flashing the parts from the news, he's being interviewed and is point to his head (I assume to tell people to shoot them in the head?).

And yeah, I liked the make-up in Dawn and the part where Savini and his crew ransacked the mall was probably the only part of the original I liked.

  8. Ok, Watched it again, and yes I think it is Savini. With a beard and wearing the trooper hat

  9. Dawn of the Dead is my favorite movie of all time. I am not looking forward to a remake. I would rather see original movies than remakes. Remakes are needless. Granted, it's not as bad as when the Ring was remade, but I still see no need to remake this or TCM. I don't feel the movies lost anything over time. And in this day and age of CG, I wonder if the gore will be accomplished the good old fashioned way or if they will cheat?

  10. Original Dawn was great, this one looks like it'll be great as well. I just hope they focus at least a half hour on the actual outbreak/city in chaos scenes. Those have always been my favorite in any zombie movies.
