Of course, Ninja Gaiden and La Pucelle cost no where near the same amount to produce, even though they can be purchased for the same price. Not saying you're wrong, but there is another factor to consider.

What changes were made for the second edition?

I love when people miss this.

"Oh, I won't buy Ninja Gaiden or another big name game at 50, but I'll definately pay 50 from the smaller publisher!!!"

Let's say La Pucelle cost 1,000 dollars to make (this is a very simple, VERY small estimate), and Ninja Gaiden cost 100,000 dollars to make. Then you factor in advertising and PR bullshit, and then consider both games sell for 50.

NG had a long way to go to break even or to even consider becoming a hit, so yea, it needed the 50 dollars just like any other game company. Being a high profile game developer dosen't mean they just have money to waste.

  5. I think he means that there will be plenty of others with $50 to spend on it other than him, which will likely not be the case with La Pucelle: Tactics.

That's still shafting the people who made the game. I think Tecmo's team deserves the $50 for something as awesome as Ninja Gaiden just as much as Mastiff deserves the $50 for only localizing a game.

But, I think the point he was making was, La Pucelle is going to sell NOWHERE near as many copies as Ninja Gaiden will. NG is guarenteed to sell a certain number of copies, and probably won't have a problem not only breaking even, but making a profit. LP, on the other hand, has a tiny potential market, and unless it catches on like Disgaea did, it may have a problem being worth the effort financially for such a small publisher.

  8. why can't you just spend your fucking money on what you want to spend it on, logical or not? hell, if people can buy growlanser watches ANYTHING GOES!!!!!!!

meanwhile i will continue to spend my $50es on games i want to buy, regardless of who makes them. but i'll still make sure to spend them on things from tiny little publishers before i support big ones ... =)

  9. Ninja Gaiden will likely sell over 2 million copies as DOA3 did. La Pucelle would be damn lucky to sell 100,000 in the US, especially since it probably didn't sell that much in Japan (or Korea where it was also released). Sure, the production costs were much lower, but the profit margin for Ninja Gaiden is much, much, much, much higher. Not to mention Tecmo is hardly a new company and poor sales for one game would not be a killing blow for them. Mastiff has yet to have a strong seller, so every game is a potential sign of the apocolypse to them. Not enough good Japanese games come to the US so I think this would be bad for a lot of people... if they do a good job with La Pucelle, that is.

Ferricide - You get the games from big publishers for free. Of course you spend your money elsewhere.

Give the man a cookie! Yes, I am in no way trying to be an ass and yes I know NG cost more to make, but I very rarely spend 50 bucks on a game anymore, so if I am going to do so, I am going to support my single favorite type of game (which happen to often be the ones released by smaller publishers) and that happens to be 2-D SRPG + I abosultely loved Disgaea and I can't wait for this one. And I want to see Phantom Brave and other titles come over, so the only way to do that is to buy this game the second it comes out. I'm not one of those elitists who only buy games that are by certain companies or niche titles, I just really freaking loved Disgaea and want as much Nippon Ichi stuff I can get over here.

I mean no matter how you argue it, LP will not sell very much...it won't...it will sell respectably to the specific people who are looking for it...but games such as Ninja Gaiden will sell to a much larger market...so I can afford to wait on that one (even though I did already buy and sell NG, so I was just using that as an example .

The Disgaea PDF, just has some additional secrets information and expanded pages in the front that talk about the senate and all that jazz...I had trouble finding what all they added, I need to look it over...but I pretty much burned out on that game after 110 hours of play. I'm saving myself for LP.
