The layout of the Bradygames guide is beautiful. Plenty of full-page images were ripped straight from Nippon Ichi's website here, including the August '03 wallpaper on page 3...The item tables and explanations of "good endings" are thorough.
However, La Pucelle is not as varied from board to board as Disgaea or Phantom Brave; more emphasis is placed on leveling your items and characters. Unfortunately, the guide's strategies for leveling up are a bit lacking, and for that purpose people would be better off looking at alamone's faq at gamefaqs.
...Does LP involve more or less need for power-leveling than Disgaea?
It requires the same amount of leveling without transmigration, but there aren't invinicibility tiles (Disgaea) or icy floors (Phantom Brave). So for each battle, the conditions only change based on the parameters (sleep, curse, confusion) of your opponents' special attacks. Also, if you don't like the random placement of geostreams, you usually can exit and re-enter. Anyway, I meant to say that I bought the guide but can totally ignore the entire walkthrough section. It makes for a nice artbook.
...so leveling up will take even LONGER? Does LP require I be at level 4000 or some crap in order to clear all the maps like in Disgaea?
Your party should be LV 45-60 to win the game, and you should have 1+ characters LV 500-1000 to complete everything. When I called it quits in the J version, I was ~1175. The stronger you get, the easier it is to level... like an exponential relationship. So it's up to the player.Originally Posted by Zerodash
The localization is good, and there's some funny dialogue I couldn't pick up on before. For example, at the end of chapter 3, Alouette apologizes to Prier for interpretting the holy book too literally, but still insists that Prier should be more modest. When Prier asks her what she means, Alouette says her attire isn't appropriate for a sister of the church. Prier explains that it was Father Salade's recommendation and counters that Alouette's mini hidden under her robe is a bit extreme, too. Alouette makes the same excuse. Meanwhile, Father Salade had his back turned and was acting oblivious to the situation. Prier and Alouette turn red and angrily approach him, as he tries to change the subject...
By the way, Phantom Brave and Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne are listed as Aug 2 and Sept 1 in the Gamestop release list, respectively.
I just picked up my copy, and crazily enough, got the guide too.
it had some cute art in it...

I wonder if there will be a rush to buy LP for fear of it being as rare as Disgaea...
