BTW, I thought the same thing you did about the old 3DO "Internet patents." I initially thought that it was something relating that came out of the development of Meridian 59 to massively-multiplayer games, whereby the Hawkman could hit up Sony or EA for some extra cabbage over the success of EverQuest and Ultima Online. I still wouldn't rule out that possibility, but now I'm starting to see the bigger picture, along with an understanding of why Trip fiddled while 3DO burned.
