Thread: Making Flash games go online....

  1. Kirby Making Flash games go online....

Ok, so I'm getting close to knowing Flash well enough to start producing possible 'good' games like side scrollers etc.

My question is, I've never really though about how to take a game online and I was wondering if it would be possible through Flash?
I know Flash isn't ALL powerful, Director is probably better... but I'm not as good in that - yet.

So what do you say, give me some advice. Some links on online gaming setups if you want.

  2. Theres plenty of online flash games. I remember X-Men VS Street Fighter flash being the first one I noticed.

I can't think of any examples though, I've avoided flash like the plague for years now.
    Play Guitar Hero //

  3. No no. I mean online flash games as in you join a server and play say 'Graal' online through Flash.

Like FFX1 let's say but a lot more basic (SNES type games)... but where you can play against other people.

Flash shouldn't be avoided, it's a great tool if in the right hands, but that's another topic. This one is about online gaming through Flash.

  4. Nonono.. there was actually an Xmen vs SF flash game where you could play other people. It was really cool but it ran kind of choppy on my computer.

  5. Pshaw. Flash's best use is to combine bizarre music and bizarre imagery, like this.

Anyway, wouldn't making flash games like that be somewhat difficult? How/where would you put client code to send/receive data from a central server and interprit it for on-screen actions?

You could import it into Flash... just like you can import other languages.
The thing IS, that is the part I don't know anything about. The client coding and such.
That's what I want to learn... so can anyone help me in this aspect?

  7. Your probably going to have to learn either some JAVA and run a java applet in flash or a VB script to do all that. I've made animations and some simple games in flash, but nothing multiplayer. I guess it'd run like Yahoo games do.
