Pretty cool overall...the stand out is the sepia-toned girl at the bottom, which looks like you used magic markers. Nice touch.
Overall, the work seems very consistent with your normal style and proportioning. Good to see you're keeping at it![]()
Welcome to the wall of cigsthecat!
Down and dirty this time. Basically I'm generating a huge backlog of stuff I need to ink, but my only good brush went awol a while ago and I can't afford a replacement just yet. Series 7 spoiled me rotten.
I just threw in the page of "notes" because that's what I do when I'm bored in non-drawing classes, and reminded me of JM's stuff he does when bored. Make sure to click on the clickables.

Your works look like a pro's. The variety of expressions is just lovely.
Say, you ink with a brush? I tried that once but it just turned out to look like watercolors (the ink fades). Do you need a special ink or a special brush to ink?
3rd from bottom is classic.
No. I was using cheap 65 cent brushes for a while, its not going to change the color of the ink. Only wet the brush a little before putting it in the ink - if at all - and thats it. The brush should run dry before it fades and if it doesn't, then you have too much water.Do you need a special ink or a special brush to ink?
oh, my erection. i love that 5th collage style drawing. i love drawings like that. it looks like some kind of wierd egyptian hyrogyphical mess. i should post some of mine up. that last colored one is awesome as well. keep the shit comin'! .........i'm gonna go draw now.
cigs, are you in the biz, or is this just all a fun hobby for you?
Thanks very much for all the compliments, they're definitely appreciated.
Yes and no. Once you've done a fair amount of inking and have used a truly great brush, you will never be able to go back. The difference is enormous at that point. Winsor & Newton Series 7 brushes are prized by many of the greats, and now I know why. Synthetic brushes can't compare to pure red sable. In the hands of a master even pen like lines can be achieved with the same amount of consistency. There was a great article reviewing several brushes in detail in DRAW! #6, I'd give that a look if you're interested. They should have it at Tower.Originally Posted by mrdandy
As far as ink goes, it is important to get waterproof india ink. Higgins Black Magic is a favorite of mine. Make sure not to have any water in the brush, or you'll dilute it. A cheap brush isn't going to give you trouble with the ink though, you'll just have a very tough time getting any sort of delicate lines out of it.
I'm finishing up school now, so I'm hoping to be soon. Just working on my own stuff at the moment.Originally Posted by rama
Ah, cigs, you are part of a dying breed that remember that cartoon artwork is supposed to be funny. Good job.
Yea, I love confusing, convoluted, and sketchy artwork like that. Very swift.Originally Posted by rama

It would not be a bad word, or a bad series of words.
It is just that when I try to find words for your brilliance, I draw a blank.
Perhaps I must invent one, but it has to sound convincing.
Somehow I must create a word for stupid brilliance, retarded genius, perfectly controlled insanity. but those phrases just cant really sum it up...
Perhaps... merely...
