Thread: Great games that got ruined for you

  1. I had nearly finished Final Fantasy VII and came to a point where I did'nt want to play anymore. About a year later, my PSX and memory cards were stolen, along with a bunch of other videogames and systems.

I've bought another copy of FFVII, but I don't know if I want to get into playing it anytime soon.

  2. i had bought or used numerous copies of dragon warrior 2, but they all had batteries that were dead. i think it was about 5 or so. being the junkie that i am, i would usually play for 5 hours or so, then save and leave, only to come back to a missing save file.

myself and 2 other friends each had copies of phantasy star 2. we helped each other out when we got stuck, but at the same time it was like a competition to see who could finish it first. unfortunately, i didn't have that strategy guide that came with it, so i had to wing it on my own. even worse, they had gotten the visiphone and i didn't. when i made it to dark force, i couldn't save, so if i died, i had to walk back. after 2 weeks of that crap, i got sick of it. I did end up with the last laugh, as i beat it before them (completely by accident too)

Shit tell me bout it. I went out with a friend for the day and when he got back at his place, someone stole his xbox and 30 odd games. He got real pissed, but his pops was kind enough to buy his xbox back, he just backed up all of his games....he took it fricking well though.

  4. Shenmue - I accidentally erased my completed game save with one from disc one when I first went through the game again. I've since played through the game a ton of times just for fun. Still though, I was pissed when it first happened.

  5. My game got erased on Phantasy Star 1 pretty deep into it on the first playthrough. But I restarted and finished anyway. I also got stuck halfway through Tales of Eternia because of an emulation glitch that wouldn't let me use magic on a certain boss fight, but I came back to it later when ePSXe's video and sound plugins got a little better and that became a viable alternative to VGS (maybe 6 months later... still too long).

So I guess it's somewhat lucky it only happens to me on games I like enough to stick with.

Luckily, I had insurance and bought back most of the games and ended up with a Gamecube and PS2 in the process.

  7. 78 Stars into Mario 64, my son erased my file. I could never bring myself to start over. I was about 90% through Banjo Kazooie and he did the same thing. There was no way in hell I was going to re-collect all that junk in there. Oof. He was banned from loading/saving/starting new files for about 3 years.

my nephew (who was 5 at the time) erased my gauntlet legends save for the N64. I had a level 98 warrior and was on my way to the last boss when he did it. RIght on thanksgiving day too. i gave him something to be thankful for alright: thankful that his mom was in the room when i kicked his ass.

  9. The Real Reason I Stopped Playing Xenogears:

I was going along, playing fine.....then I got the bright idea to see how badly I could disturb myself with bad fanfiction, and found this archive of the worst written Xenogears fiction ever. I was laughing and crying at the same time.......but I just couldn't play the game after that. It was completely ruined for me. All I could do was picture Citan getting raped by a sword. It just doesnt compute right.

Yeah, I had just opened up the last level in Banjo Kazooie and was finishing up collecting stuff in the level before that when he dumped my game. I was pissed. I took the "Don't touch my stuff unless I'm in the room and even then, let me do it" approach. He understands all that stuff now; he's ten. Back then he was 4/5 and dangerous with game saves.

I thought of another one, but it wasn't really "ruined" I guess. Several hours into Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, I lost control of my characters. They just started running around all over the screen and I couldn't stop them. I thought my game was defective and put it down for a year. I started over after a year and it happened again. Put it down for a year and finally decided it was probabaly a corrupt memory card, started it on a new card and everthing was fine. But I got stuck in a cavern between warp springs with enemies surrounding me, little health and not enough save files to back out and go to a previous one. Put it down for another year. Got back on last Christmas, somehow worked my way out of that cavern and played to the final boss fight. After Christmas vacation was over, I put it down not having beat the boss yet. Haven't picked it back up yet, but I plan to this Christmas. I need to level up my party a few times and go back at that sucker. This is the longest it's ever taken me to complete a game. 4 or 5 years? I love that game though.
