Thread: Great games that got ruined for you

  1. I remember about 10 years ago, i was playing Blaster Master - a game for whatever reason i found to be incredibly difficult. Well after many many many atempts i finally made it pretty far into the game. It was the level where you couldnt use your vehicle to get to the boss room, underwater stage maybe. Anyways it was pretty insanely difficult. Well i made it to the boss (a big crab thing i think), and what do ya know? Power outage. I havent played the game since...

Uh, wait... from my memory, you don't need it to complete the game. You only need it to get the Magnum. I know because I did this too, and while I was pissed that I couldn't get the best RE weapon, it wasn't the end of the world.

OMG. Same thing happened to me at least twice, and maybe three times. Thing is, I turned the system off normally, with no power loss or anything of the sort. Separate copies of the game just erased my late-game saves for no discernable reason.

I plan to go back to it soon with yet another copy. Here's hoping I will finally overcome the nefarious LandStalker Battery Curse.

(I guess emulation is good for some things ... :P)

Destro: That was level 5. I bet you'd find it easier today.

  4. This just happened to me recently--playing Suikoden 2 when I learned that I missed recruiting a minor character in a town that I can never go back to. In order to get the 108 stars I have to start over again even though I have put in 33+ hours into the game already and am near the end of the game. Oh well--still a great game...

  5. When my copy of Ape Escape arrived in the mail I had just gotten McDonalds and was too excited about playing the game to stop for lunch, so I just ate it while I played. Now for some reason whenever I try to play that game I taste those fucking french fries. No thanks.

  6. I've already mentioned this in another thread, so I'll just repost it here:

I had a traumatic experience while playing Sper Mario Bros. straight, no warps. I was doing well. It took me hours to get through it. And then right when I was about to defeat Bowser and beat the damn game, my idiot cousin hit the power adapter, resetting the NES. I've since made a vow not to play that game again (which kills me, as it's one of my fivorite nintendo games of all time).

You think THAT'S bad?!? How about Sonic Adventure, 129 Sonic Emblems, and my 10 year old nephew ends up creating his own save file...... RIGHT OVER MINE!!!!! Damn Big the Cat levels. I just had one more damn emblem to get. If he erased it with all 130 i wouldn't have cared, as I'd have already done it, but this just pissed me off.

  7. Played the shit outta Super Mario World when it came out and got all the levels so the game file had the little star icon next to it. Having it saved like that for like 10 years only to have my niece play the game and erase it!!! DAMN KIDS!!!
    Xbox Live- SamuraiMoogle

  8. Those 8-bit games with the faux-3D mazes. I'd get lost in them and just give up. I even got stuck in the mafat conspiracy in the first level of the game.

I played all the way through the first Golgo 13 but that only made it certain that I would never do that again.

    Phantasy Star musta owned you...

  10. Mark of Kri - Game is absolutely awesome, until you hit the last stage. Absolutely no stealth whatsoever. Nothing but a dull, long hack 'n slash level. The lack of a final boss didn't help.

GTA: Vice City - It was fun at first, but the abysmal targetting system kept bugging me. When I got through the last, buggy fight sequence, my enjoyment turned to utter disappointment.
