Thread: The Official Morrowind Thread

  1. I'm more concerned about framerate and resolution. After playing in 1600x1200 for a week, the Xbox version seems absolutely claustrophobic.

  2. If you have an HDTV the XBOX can do some crazy resolutions. I think the problem may be your TV...

    From an XBOX FAQ:
    Maximum resolution: 1920x1080
    Maximum resolution (2x32bpp frame buffers + Z): 1920x1080

Of course thats assuming you have a widescreen HDTV, if not the max would be 1440 X 1080.

All of this is ALSO assuming Morrowind supports that resolution WHICH IT BETTER!

  3. Also, I don't wanna spend a grand on a new computer when I have an XBOX. That just never made sense to me...

NO greatness the PC version could have would make it worth a grand.

    Which it won't.

Maybe not (to you), but a top of the line PC plays lots of other great games too.

  5. Just wanted to say that www.ebgames.com has the Xbox version for $39.99. Preorder of course.

  6. As someone who only plays console games, I have no idea what this game is like. I've avoided most of the talk on this thread to avoid any spoilerish stuff. Still, could someone tell me what kind of game this is? What do you do, and what is your goal? Would this be something someone who has only played console games be interested in?

  7. Well, I was planning on getting a new PC this summer anyway, and Morrowind just happened at the right fucking time...so I can accuratley plan what type of PC to get (so I can enjoy the game properly!)

  8. Well, four days later and I'm back in the thread. Haven['t got it yet, may get a new card first. I was hoping someone would tell me how my card would do, so thanks to those who suggested I upghrade my vid card. May do so in the near future. Will still get the game but probably won't install it until I get the new card. Thanks again, keep posting impressions, it's getting me psyched!

Here's the thing, the game is about as open-ended as you'll find in this day and age (for comparision, GTA3 is as free-form as Ninja Gaiden arcade next to this game). If you like being able to choose what you do, how you do it, allowing yourself to help everyone or slaughter the masses as you choose, this is the game for you.

There's a goal of sorts, but you can stick to it or ignore it as much as you want. You can go around, become the greatest thief in the land and learn how to wield all sorts of blades while being part of all sorts of guilds or simple follow the straight and narrow path as it's handed to you. Your goals are literally whatever you want them to be.

This is not a fast or quick game, lots of time and effort must be put into it, but you will be rewarded as well. Don't like how slow your character is? Run around a lot and your ability to run will improve over time. Want to jump higher and farther? Jump a lot, and your ability will increase. People don't seem to like you? Use persuasion a lot, and your speaking will get better. Practice what you want, and you will get better at it. It's mainly first-person (though third is selectable), with the ability to customize your character a great deal (I love walking around with full armor while covered in a cloak so none of it shows ), and more based on involving yourself in the surroundings then it is on action.

It's a full on free-form RPG. You like creating your own characters and doing as you please? You'll love this game. Want everything neat and simple and handed to you? You probably won't be very interested. But it at least deserves a look.

I can't really say if it's for console players or not, because I mainly am a console player (a twitch action gamer all the way), but I love it all to death.

And might I say this game has the most incredible sky in the existance of videogames? Always changing, slowly moving, beautiful effects... *drool*

  10. Thank you very much for you the info, MechDeus. Sounds like a very open ended rpg. So, will you be spending most of your time doing menial leveling up, or is there action packed stuff to make up for it (in other words, warrant a purchase)? What exciting stuff can you do?
