Thread: The Official Morrowind Thread

  1. x5 is the maximum multiplier, and to get it you need all ten of your skills that contributed to the level up to be reliant on the same attribute (or just level up one skill ten times).
I believe it would be pretty well impossible for my character to meet those requirement within 'normal' play (i.e. no training or one-skill levelling), but I've gotten a x5 at least twice that I can remember.

Quite odd. Thanks for your help, and I'll check out that FAQ.

  2. I actually don't like the way it's set up because you almost need to level up through one skill levelling (or selective skill levelling), which I consider kinda cheap. It also lends itslef to certain types of characters (say, a wizard focused on destruction, alteration, mysticism, and restoration, or a thief who sneaks, uses short blades and light armor) getting x5 modifiers but other seemingly standard class types (a hand-to-hand focused warrior using heavy armor and long blade or axe) are screwed. I guess gettting a x5 modifier every time really isn't that big of a deal, because you can get so over-powered just through regular play, but it's still annoying.

Ugh, I HATE Vivec. It's so... boring.

Speaking of Vivec, is there any way to kill Vivec (in the temple)? I went in there for a minute, but I didn't want to screw anything up.

To get a x5 multiplier, you need to level up that attribute 10 times. If you level up your intelligence 10 times before you level up, you'll get x5. 8 times = x4, etc.

  5. Well I'm not very far along, but if anyone cares, here's my take on the Dark Lord of Mordor:

    Sauron
    Dark Elf
Custom Class: Lord of the Rings
Sign: The Lady (mainly chosen for personality bonus, but The Shadow would make sense too)

    Favored Attributes: Strength, Intelligence

    Major Skills
    Enchant (for Ring-making, of course)
Destruction (to be a badass mage)
Long Blade (to be a badass fighter)
    Heavy Armor (same)
Speechcraft (Sauron was one charismatic bastard before forging the Ring)

    Minor Skills
    Blunt Weapon
    Illusion
    Conjuration
    Restoration
    Alchemy

Now I just need a plain golden band, and I can get to work...

Yes, you can kill Vivec. It's probably the toughest fight in the game, but you can kill him. There's no one who is unkillable. He's not even the one person you can't kill if you want to finish the main quest either.

Vivec can be fun, but you really need constant levitation to enjoy it.

My character Kei is a little too powerful now. It's starting to turn evil. She was going to slaughter everyone in Vivec before I stopped her and set her out in the wilderness with a weapon she has no skill in. I fear what will happen when she's mastered her new daedric toy. I've got a feeling that the god Vivec's days are numbered.

Was Dren the only guy I can't kill in order to undergo the main quest? The guy that I... erm... killed (read the Morrowind thread at the Velocity Gaming forums)?

Man, I should have never killed Dren... I need him for a Fighters guild mission. Damn my strength and aggressiveness! Oh well... I did it for the SLAVES!

Hmmm... I need to practice my enchanting skills... I trapped 3 golden saints today, so I think I should take advantage of those nice soul gems.

  8. No, Dren isn't that 'only guy.' I managed to figure out who it was after reading up the alternate method and I don't want to spoil it, but let's just say he's very unique.

Just signed up to betatest the patch for the PC version. They're accepting 500 people in the US for it for those who are interested. Just hit the message board on www.morrowind.com. Some might see this as getting free labor from free testers, but I love the game so I don't mind that.

  9. Well, one of my roomies killed someone (I didn't see who he killed) and got an in-game message which declared something along the lines of, "What you have done you cannot go back on! If you continue, this world cannot be saved and will continue to die a slow death!"

Another time, he got an error message from some random glitch which froze his computer that read something like, "You have caused an problem in an interferring area and the game will now crash, please see Chris for details. Have a nice day." The real funny part is that my name is Chris, and he thought for a moment I did something to screw up his computer!

  10. I've taken everyone advice into account and have also spent some time in leveling up my character (my main focus now) and doing some more missions for the thieves guild - I've also been fortunate to actually find a house that is abandoned (err...well not really - I murdered the owner) - its the Neseda (spelling?) Mansion in Balmora. I cleaned out all of the old resident's stuff and sold every single thing he owned for a nice chunk of change. Now I finally have a place in the game I can call home - with a nice big bed too!!!

I've gotta admit to being a little chicken shit when it comes to venturing out in the countryside at night...I suppose I'm not confident in my character yet. More than that however, I'm ten times more chicken shit to go after bandits in tombs...damn this game for drawing me in so!!!
