I'm going to Japan after college.
Game programming for life.

Good luck finding a job, non-Japanese boy.Originally Posted by nakkato

So let's just say I have plenty of time to brush up on my Japanese.
And I will be one hell of a programmer (actually, top of my C++ class at the moment... but it is only introductory, unfortunately...), and even if I can't find a job, I could open an independant development company in either Japan or the US.
But I would prefer Japan, as Japan has always felt somewhat like home to me, not become I'm some fanboy of Japanese anime and games, but because I absolutely love Japanese culture all in all 10 times as much as I like the US cultural layout or whatever you like to call it.

No, the reason why I said that is because Japanese companies (I dont mean American companies with branches in Japan, or whatever), are NOTORIOUS for discriminating against Americans and non-Japanese in their hiring. Shit, the whole country is notorious in discriminating against foreigners. Im sure thats a part of Japanese culture you can't dig 10x more than the US "cultural layout".
Im not saying this to be a dick or whatever, Im saying this to tell you that it may not matter if you could program circles around Carmack, a lot of Japanese companies just wont hire you because youre not from there.
you bastard. I shovelled my driveway with a huge overcoat, tuke and gloves on. Last week I couldn't feel my face if I went for a 3 minute walk. So I guess Southern California or So-Cal as the hip kids say, is just fine.

Understood completely. As well as believed, from what I've herad you basically have to be implanted into a job over there if you're American (or get an internship somewhere and somehow prove your credibility...)Originally Posted by diffusionx
Looks like I'm gunna have to get in with KOA and hope they see my true skills and ship me over to KOJ.
Which I know Konami does... I mean, when was the last time they had a truly (decent) US exclusive release? (NO, DDR does NOT count, as all US versions are adapted from JP versions...)

nakkato: I would start with 2D programming and use C. I'm currently planning on making a 2D sidescroller (maybe a level or two, see where it takes me). It's so hard. I'm going to school for design right now, and plan to go for 3D animation after this. Starting up your own company is pointless. Publishers are notorious for being picky and someone with no creds under his belt will get 0% of their time.
