This movie looks great. Will Ferrell is awesome.

Tons of great reviews are starting to show up, but this comment from AICN has taken my anticipation to the next level.

I must admit I wasn't sure if the concept would work, but I was confident in the talent involved... And they didn't let me down. Let me say right here, right now... ELF is the best Christmas movie to come along since A CHRISTMAS STORY.

Im one of the few people who thinks Will Ferrell is a dumbass and who isnt funny. I've seen his work plenty of times. But I just think he's not funny at all. My roommate used to download these SNL clips of him and make me watch them but I never thought they were any good... and when I saw Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, I nearly cried at the sheer universe-collapsing awfulness of his performance. He was a comedy vacuum. Other comedy vacuums get lost in the one he created on-screen there.

They were handing out tickets to see this one free around here. I didnt pick them up. I emphasize the fact that they were free.

I mostly agree with you. I'm definitely not a fan. This movie, however, looks funny and is getting good reviews so I think I'll check it out. The concept of the thing is funny in itself, so I'm hopeful that even Will Ferrell can carry it.

I think the movie looks funny, but that reviewer is wrong. The best Christmas movie since A Christmas Story was National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
