Thread: Two Towers Extended Edition

  1. Two Towers Extended Edition

I didn't want to make a thread for the ROTK news, so I figured I'd make a TTEX thread. Anyways, the ROTK news- I noticed in all the trailers that Saruman wasn't in them at all, and the reason was revealed today. He's not in ROTK. His final scene (since there's no Scouring of the Shire) was to be at the end of Two Towers, but because of pacing it was cut out and was decided to be added to the front of ROTK. PJ has been trying to get that to work, but to no avail, so the 7 or so minutes of Saruman footage will be relegated to the Return of the King dvd (extended edition, I'm sure). You can read about it all here-

As for the TTEX dvd set, it's out on the 17th. Here's the Digital Bits review-

  3. I think it has the same release date each year.

  4. I'm really looking forward to this. FOTR's extras were awesome, I'm sure TT's will be the same.

  5. Pixar always has cool extras too. (Finding Nemo was cool, although no bloopers like they usually do, which sucks)

Lord of the Rings is the best trilogy in my opinion. I can't see anything wrong with the films so far. I haven't read the books, but I see the books and films as two identities anyway. They're loosely related.

Like the cousin you rarely see, and don't have much in common.

  6. Has anyone else noticed that there has been at one really good dvd released every week since the first week of October?

I cannot wait for the TT:EE release. 45 extra minutes, WooHoo!

I find this a little hard to believe. Saruman is a hugely important character in both theatrical releases - PJ is just going to totally leave him out? From the perspective of the theatrical audience, the Traitor of Middle-earth just quietly vanishes from the plot...yeah, there's pacing for you. The theatrical release of Two Towers didn't have the best pacing anyway, mostly because of how PJ chose to handle the splintering plot. If he paces ROTK in the same way (which is likely), it would be easy to include Saruman's fate.

I'm still royally peeved there's no Scouring. That's a massively important sequence, especially in terms of what Tolkien was trying to say thematically.

  8. Why do they always release 2 versions? Why don't they just release only the extended version?

  9. Some people would rather not sit through 4 hours of a movie, or maybe they don't want to spend twice as much on extras they don't want to watch. Also, think of the big bruhah that Lucas has caused over the Special Edition version of Star Wars. You'd get the same arguements.

  10. BOOYA!!!! I just brought something home with me from work today. SCORE! I have my copy of the Two Tower Extented ed in my hand! I know it comes out next week but retailers usually get movies early. And since my boss kicks ass he was ok with letting me take it home now and pay for it next week. I should have taken it how last Friday when we got it... doh! I dont have time to actually watch the whole movie tonight since the Packer game is on but I did manage to see the 1st 20 minutes and check out what some of the extras are all about.

The movie starts the same as the theatrical version. But the next chapter with Sam And Frodo has a new scene. Its a nice addition. Anyways I browsed the book it came with and noticed it has a total of
15 all new scenes and 19 extended ones! WOW!

If you guys want to know more let me know. I wont sit down to watch it for a few day but I'm sure my bro Samurai Moogle will check it out on his day off tomorrow. So I'll tell him to stop in.

BTW, LotR is easily one of my favorite movies ever. And now officially best trilogy without even seeing RotK. Since I just seen the mess that was Matrix 3 and theres no way RotK can suck as hard as that did.
