If an alien infant with super powers crash lands on our planet, there will soon be no farming families to raise and instill proper small town values in him.
Think about that.
Thats not what it was about. Its about knowing where your food comes, and supporting local/family/small farmers.
There is nothing wrong with that.

I've no problem with eating meat. Assuming that you kill, clean and prepare the animal yourself. Even better if you had to raise it. But walking into a supermarket and picking up a package off the shelf is taking no responsibility for that creature's death.
I can but don't. That would be a waste mode7. The meat at the market is already there, the damage is done. Use it and waste not.
Although I wouldn't raise the animal, I belive there is an anthropomorphic function in the human brain that assumes a personallity for animals you raise and anyone would form an attachment to it.

Which is fine, except that the money spent on that already-dead meat goes straight toward ensuring there's more waiting for eager consumers next week. The meat at the market is already there, the damage is done. Use it and waste not.
I realize my viewpoint is more ideal than it is practical -- obviously not everyone is going to start raising chickens in their back yard. But I would love to see (much like the above flash is suggesting) people making any sort of effort to be at least mildly cognizant about the treatment these animals endure before arriving at their supermarkets looking so neatly packaged and wonderfully sterile.
That would be great, not to mention that a freshly caught hare or goose is 10x better than any prime cut I've found at markets. It is, as you said, impractical to have everyone raiseing thier own livestock (beef and to a lesser degree pork would be a rare food then) but I can agree, some respect has to go into it and factory farms are awful. If there was a labeling system on meats at the butchers that said where it came from I would pay a premium for farm raised meats over factory meats.

I'd glady raise my own food... if it was 1850.
You win.
You guys are all a bunch of vegans.![]()
I had to hunt my own nachos tonight. The chips were especially frisky, trying to pin them down was almost as annoying as chasing the goddamn jalepenos in circles.
The cheese stands alone.
