No. I enjoy eating turkey, and the occasional steak.

I don't think anyone reasonably expects modern society to give up any degree of its modern convenience. It's simply a view I hold for myself, however impractical.

Of course, if any of you actually had to walk through one of these places and could still eat a supermarket steak with a clear conscience, then you might as well hop in the processing vats yourself for all the loss it would be.

  3. I object to factory farming because it's killing the taste of our meat. I pay double for free-range chicken, and splurge occasionally for free-range beef. You can taste the fucking difference: supermarket meat is like shit-dipped cardboard after you've tasted the humanely raised variety.

There is a steakhouse around here that has free range beef.

I agree 100% you can taste the difference.

    $75 steak = awesome.

  5. I so thought this was going to be about porno. Up with meat.

Like others have said, free range beef is many times better than the shit at the supermarket. I have no regrets spending 4 digits on a whole cow or two. Try the good stuff, you might never go back. The expense is all worth it.

"Don't worry Tommy, its not a floor at all. It's more of a grating to let loose materials fall through."

"When I grow up, I want to go to Bovine University"

    Especially carrots. Mwa haha.

  10. Yeah, mass farming sucks. I'm all for meat eating, but this kind of stuff just puts crap into our food supply, mistreats animals for no reason, and forces honest traditional farmers out of business. Stupid things like this are the reason why we have to deal with mad cow disease.

If there was a labeling system on meats at the butchers that said where it came from I would pay a premium for farm raised meats over factory meats.
Finding good quality meat isn't hard if you avoid the supermarket. A reputable butcher shop should be able to sell you some properly raised stuff if you ask for it. Some health food stores (except for the ridiculous vegetarian-only ones, of course) have a high-quality meat section, too.

I've no problem with eating meat. Assuming that you kill, clean and prepare the animal yourself. Even better if you had to raise it. But walking into a supermarket and picking up a package off the shelf is taking no responsibility for that creature's death.
Ha - you know, aside from the occasional package of bacon, I haven't bought meat at the supermarket in over a year. Mostly that's because I go fishing a lot and catch enough free fish and octopus to keep the freezer full. Meat is too expensive to buy in quantity.

Still, I don't feel remorse about buying the odd hamburger.
