Now that andy's back I'm noticing less banter with Max. Banter with Max was good.

Not as good as Conan's Rodeo Road makeover though.

I'm happy to have Andy back. Banter with Andy was always better than banter with Max, and still is. Max would always just agree and nod his head in a seemingly confused or serious manor, no matter the subject. Andy actually has poignant things to say (chaco-taco stock for example).
I will agree that they need to turn down his mic a bit during the monologue, or he needs to have a mic attached to his podium, so he can move in and out of range as dialogue with Conan dictates.

Got to watch the second episode, he has not changed at all. The Shopping SPree on Rodeo Road was amazing and so much like Conan.

The desk and podium mics are always for show, and never plugged in. It's a visual carry over from when these things were necessary HERE'S JOHNNY!. People are boom miced from overhead, or with a lavalier mic, or both.

You can blame this entirely on the engineer, or the producer standing over the back of the engineer.
