  1. Good news as far as Jackson making The Hobbit...

Peter Jackson has some very special support in his quest to film J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit - the author's great-grandson. The director, who made a trilogy of Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings books to massive critical and commercial acclaim, is hoping disputes over the novel's rights will not prove an obstacle to making the movie prequel - and Royd Tolkien, 34, has now given Jackson his blessing. He says, "I would love to see Peter Jackson make a film of The Hobbit. That would be the perfect ending."

HOLY SHIT. I'd never thought of that, but damn...

The only anime I really enjoyed. Arislan was okay, but nowhere near the level of Lodoss.

As far as Samwise and the ring went, BioMechanic summed it up - the Ring granted some minor powers to anyone who held it. It allowed Sam to fool the orcs into thinking he was a fierce elf-warrior. The consequence of this was that Elessar and his troops had to ride to the black gate and distract Sauron so that Frodo and Sam could get across Gorgoroth(sp) without much incident and to keep Sauron's eye away from Mt. Doom.

Oh man, a live action Lodoss would own.

  3. To kinda kill the 5 hour ROTK extended cut rumour, Onering.net reported that the Danish jounalist who interviewed PJ was incorrect, and that PJ actually said 4 hours and 15 minutes, not 4 hours and 50 minutes.

IIRC, the shooting schedule was something like 240 days...around there. Then there were some pic ups/reshoots for each movie as each movie came closer to release.

Arwen was the worst part of the entire LoTR movie trilogy.

I remember someone discussing that they shot a lot of material after each theater release for the extended versions. Don't remember where I read that, I think it was in a magazine article right after Two Towers came out in theaters discussing some of the scenes they were still filming for the TT:EE.

Why didn't you like her? She looks like an elf in real life.

  9. The main shoot was around 15 months straight in New Zealand, everyone had to live there for a year and a half. Shooting began in 99, I think. Over the years people would have to fly in for reshoots and such.
