  2. i think i remember Treasures of the Deep, but i might also be confusing it with another underwater game that came out around the that time. i don't remember the name of that game either. it was pretty fun, for just the demo i had (i'm pretty sure it was TotD), but it didn't seem like something i would have bought. the marine bio type of stuff is cool too.

i keep getting into my head that this thread should be called "Let's Pimp Slap: Treasures of the Deep".

  3. Hmm... sounds like something I might want to check out. Everblue 2 appeals to me a lot, too. I liked Aquanaut's Holiday, and apparently I'm not the only one, because there were sequels in Japan. I should look into them too... blah. No money or time for that now.

However, if I was trusting old issues of GameFan to lead me to quality games, I'm not sure if I'd buy it just on that. I bought Welcome House after Dave Halverson practically jizzed praise for it, and...

I don't know if I've never played such a stupid game in my life. After paying $50 or $60 for it, it was like getting raped up the ass while being beaten with a 2x4. One with nails stuck in it. Rusty ones.

Anyway, I don't care if Keaton can listen to Que Sera, Sera on vinyl. He and his uncle are annoying sacks of shit. No matter how enticing a game looked in GameFan, I'm hesitant to buy because of that.

...except I still want Hermie Hopperhead and Floating Runner.

  4. Treasures of the Deep is nothing short of fantastic. It's a pretty good sized adventure too, and you won't necessarily breeze through it. I also think it's one of those games where the levels get progressively better as you play. You start off searching for sunken ships, and before long, you're exploring these massive underwater caverns that have only one extrance/exit while navigating through powerful underwater currents and kickass enemies. The limited air supply adds a lot of tension to later levels too.

I wish we'd get a sequel or remake though. If there's one game that would benefit from a graphical face lift on newer hardware, it's this one. Granted, it looked amazing on the PS1 at the time, but can you imagine a gorgeous underwater environment rendered on the Gamecube or Xbox? Underwater games are woefully underrepresented it seems.

I remember playing Treasures of the Deep for the first time and thinking to myself, "Now this is what dual analog controls are for."

Here's a pretty good review of the game:

That's awesome. It actually occurred to me to do something like that, but the whole "Let's" thing was getting out of hand.

  7. Just wanted to chime in and say i got this game just recently. It took me awhile to track down a complete copy. I was interested in this game back in the day and it would have gone forgotten if it wasnt for this thread.

Ive been looking for a good underwater game (they dont make enough of them) and this definately delivers. Doesnt get any better than blasting sharks in two with torpedoes.

    Thanks again for the recommendation.

  8. Hmm, sounds like I'll have to add this one to my list.

  9. I got the Gamefan hint book on this game, it has a nice little interview with one of the developer's in the back.... maybe I should scan it in for all your reading pleasure!

  10. Please do.
