  1. TNL Feature: hands-on retrospective of Propeller Arena

Check out my retrospective on Propeller Arena that goes into the reasons this lost Dreamcast gem was cancelled by Sega at the last minute.

Really a shame, it looks like it would have been one of the DC's greatest games... And it was an online AM2 title too!

Sega's worst public relations nightmare: A player's plane heading for the replicas of the World Trade Center Twin Towers in Propeller Arena's "Tower City" stage.

  2. Crimson Skies makes up for it.

And also, all Sega would have had to do is take out the Two Towers, or remove the stage altogether, and release it. I never understood why they didn't, it's like they were looking for a reason to cancel it.

  3. Yeah, I think they were looking for a reason to pull it.

If the DC weren't on the way out, Sega probably would have cut some of the sensitive content or just postponed the release date. But at that point, it conveniently sped up their hardware exit strategy, especially in regards to dismantling their online network.

I believe Propeller Arena was to have been the last online DC game released?

  4. Yup, great. Now somebody dump it and burn / BitTorrent it.

  5. Whew, that is one clean, beautiful looking game.

    Indeed. Do that.

  7. Is there any reason for Sega to not release it on a current platform? Xbox Live?

I'm surprised that nobody has...but, I did read that some off the individual that had aquired this, paid a pretty penny for it, so that might be a reason why they don't.

If it ever does turn up, my pm or email box would be very interested.

    BTW, Nice write-up Teddman.

  9. Seems to have been just another Sega dumbass decision. Why not release it without the level or just take out the buildings? Why not port it to PS2 or Xbox?

  10. Now this is the kind of feature I can get behind.

Which is exactly why I wanted this game so badly. I can still remember the level anticipation that many of us AFO players had of this, we used to chat online about it all the time.
