Motorcycles oftentimes have their brights on (especially during daylight) so that people will hopefully see them. Drivers oftentimes look "through" bikers, since they are so adjusted to seeing two headlights/taillights at the edges of the lane.

  4. I've actually been saying this for ages. I complain about headlights (and SUVs) all the time in forums

Really, one time, this punk ass Asian kid in a rice rocket is trying to make a left hand turn from the other direction... he has 2 halogen headlights, 2 giant WRX style fog lights and 2 extra (supposedly stock) head/foglights... erm... it was like staring into the sun... I nearly crashed because I couldn't see if there was oncoming traffic. I'd report him to the police... but I couldn't even tell what kind of car, let alone read his license plate. *sigh*

But more commonly, I just hate SUVs with halogen lamps. It's bad enough they're hella bright. It's doubly worse when they're lined up directly at my rear view mirror. Ugh.

  5. Ah... another fun thing to bitch about. It's all too common around me. Long Island is just FILLED with stupid people with too much money. Where does it go? A stupid, unneccessary SUV (don't act like you're invincible, I saw you fishtailing in the snow, you stupid bastards) or a sports car. Both have those insufferable lights. These things make it damn near impossible to see sometimes.
I do have a funny story, though...
Some spoiled moron kid with his souped-up sports car was tailgating me with these lights at around 2 am on the Southern State parkway (LIers know what I'm talking about. See, that's when there's NOBODY ON IT. You wouldn't think that ever happened, would you?). Then, because I guess he thought it was cool or somesuch, he pulls around me really quickly and tries to drive off. Of course, I put on my brights, and sit on HIS ass until I get around my exit. So, he moves over to the next lane and starts doing 90, and I got off, went home, and went to sleep. Jovial.

    Damn straight.

  7. Some ass clown in a big truck did that last night on my way home from work.

Its dark out, his truck lights shining right through the back of my window and he is tail gating like a momo.

So after about 3 brake checks he gets the point and backs off about 20 feet, still not enough though.

  8. I have to sleep with things pulled over my eyes at times, though only if there's an overhead light on close to me or I'm trying to sleep in a car on a road trip. Aside from headlights being outrageously bright I find that the streetlights are enough to make me insane. If they were consitently bright it wouldn't bother me! Driving by, they come on, then off, then on, then off.... o.O

As for regulating headlight brightness, it wont happen to a degree that would make the problem go away. Sure, maybe the cars will come with lights that are more dim, but so many people modify their cars the roads would still be plagued by the blinding Xenons and the like. Bright headlights aren't going to just disappear from the roads even if a law was ever put into effect.

  9. There ARE laws to prohibit installing certain lights over a certain brightness and installed.. problem is that the law isn't enforced. I mean certainly not as much as illegally lowered cars, illegal tail and turn signals etc. I don't understand what you're talking about.

If there was a definitive ENFORCED law that clearly regulated headlight standards, the people abusing them would be caught... regardless of whether the lights are stock or aftermarket.

And as for the on, off, on, off effect of street lights ... I like the constant strobing of the lights. At night when it's late and I'm tired... it reminds me I'm still moving

  10. A month ago, I drove in a rented Mercury Sable which had an automatic & incremental rear view dimmer. That thing was awesome! I could actually see at night.
