Rock.
ill find some freeware site and play a few rounds of this tonight in celebration. maybe some Legacy Doom2 just for the hell of it.
The classic first-person shooter that literally made all hell break loose on your PC, got Lieberman's knickers in a bunch, and set standards for other FPSes while spawning a lot of games licensing its engine (Heretic and Hexen to name a couple) and user created maps has turned 10 today.
Congratulations to id Software on this accomplishment. Here's hoping DOOM 3 will be as good as the first two, and that your PC can handle it.![]()
Finished in 2021: 8 games (PC: 4, PS4: 2, PS3: 1, X1: 1)

Oh hell yea.
I still say this is the most revolutionary game ever. It gave so much to the world of gaming its crazy - like multiplayer (IPX play), user-created mods and maps, and of course, it really blazed a path with its OMG SCARY atmosphere and awesome FPS gameplay. Yes yes Wolf3D came first but really that game is pants. Doom is still awesome.
All that user-created ability allowed a ton, a ton of people to get into the game industry that never could before. So many people coding and making games today cut their teeth on games like Doom and Quake... the game is simply a landmark.
Two ongoing series:

Not sure what there is to say. I love the Doom series and always will. And even in it's sick Alpha form, Doom 3 was already badass. I can't wait for the final release. They better include the ultra sawed off double barrled shotgun. Slow as hell but it was my fav weapon in Doom 2.
I've been lighting it up in Legacy Doom recently...It's suprising to find out just how fun Doom still is. Doom III is definately my most awaited game, fuck HL2!
One of the greatest games ever. Matter of fact I think I'll go pick up Doom II for the GBA tomorrow, it'll pass the time at work perfectly.
We're currently testing out a new PC at my house, running at about 3.3gHz with a gig of RAM and a Radeon 9800. Needless to say, the Doom III alpha was among the first games we tested on it and it looks absolutely amazing.
Doom rocks. It was one of those rare games that I just couldn't put down. My first exposure to it was on SNES (of all places), but I still loved it nonetheless.
One of the best things about the game are the replay recordings. I stumbled upon this site last night, and basked in the glory of expert players tearing shit up as fast at they can. Speedruns are neat and everything, but my true love are the Max replays (100% kills/secrets). Awesome stuff.
I do have a question I hope someone can answer... I can't view replays for map 8 in Doom II ("Tricks and Traps") because it fucks up and falls out of sync in a few places (depending on the replay). I use Doom95. I'm thinking that the original DOS version didn't have some of the warp points that screw up the replays I'm watching. Does anyone else have this problem?
To this day the only FPS I ever really got into. My friend showed it to me on his computer and I was amazed. I was even more amazed when I saw I could buy it at the store for $8 (shareware was a new concept to me).
This is the game that defined what the FPS genre was all about to me, although judging from the state of the genre today not to the world. One you, a million them, and just enough kick-ass weaponry to get through, assuming you don't waste it.
Even though back in the day I liked Heretic better, over time Doom has held up while Heretic has left the hard drive. Maybe it's time for a new round of Final Doom?
