RR V is fantastic, but it's not quite the quantum leap for the series that R4 was. Definitely worth the $10 or so it goes for now though.
Ridge Racer V is a fucking amazing, blazing racing game, puts anything Sega ever did to shame, it just rules all.
If Namco could make a RR that combines RRV's gameplay and difficulty with R4's variety, you would have the uncontested best racer ever for all time. It would simply be impossible to top.

I remember buying RRV the day the PS2 launched, and staring anxiously at it on my shelf now and then in the week or two it took me to hunt down a PS2. When I played it, I can't really say it disappointed. It's a good game, a lot of fun to be had here.
It's no R4, though. Nothing is. Likely, nothing ever will be. Oh, and as much as I dig the JogCon, neGcon is far more conducive to better performance, I think. I have both and had a damn good time fucking around with both in R4, but I have to tell you, I've never used either in RRV. When I'm home for the holidays I think I'll toss it in my PS2 and rediscover it.
Every GS i have been through is packed with these, and sell for $5.99 or $6.99.Originally Posted by Jeremy
definitely get it, it easily ranks in the top 3 racers this generation. and it never goes for more than $10 used. fantastic game too when you consider the time they and circumstances the team had to develop the game.
i have the same problem with it, but this is the only blue disc game i have that does it.Originally Posted by NeoZeedeater
seriously, just an actual sequal to R4 would do. only game out there that would have a chance of beating R4 for best racer of all time.Originally Posted by diffusionx
Certiainly worth 5-10 dollars. Could do with a few more tracks, but not bad at all.
It's worth the cheap price, but it's very short. It's definetly better than the original, but I don't think I'd place it ahead of Rage or R4. The announcer is lame. "Looks like he got too close for com-fort!".

LOL I remember that.
I like it more than R4 because it's harder. R4 was too easy...
This is one reason why I liked PGR so much, because it reminded me of a tougher R4.
Initial D and Daytona are more fun than RRV for sure. I did like RRV, but I don't see what it has over Sega's best.
Nothing will ever top the original Daytona for me. Pure fun, with every part of every track being memorable. Same goes for Sega Rally. Frogacuda, I haven't heard much about Initial D, mind if I ask what's so fantastic about it?
