Thread: Andrews Heapage - (Jan 16th update. I lure you in with a robot)

  1. I uploaded the change but his upper arm is too long, i think. I'll change that next time.

  2. This was the original sketch before I accessorized his ass.

This is what I have so far, and I'm happy with it. I still have to add on some shoulder pads. The story behind the cartoon melded with some fine details is because I'm redoing Joystick Adventures to be more of a story, not just a simple humour site. We had some classics in the old site, some misses and a bunch of variants in between, but something with a cool story and a neat world to explore is definitely something better tuned to my skills, I think.

The idea is that they fall through a big portal and end up materializing in the sky (a huge portal opens). They fall and land on this guy, who is a honoured warrior amongst his people. Jonas (the afro guy, if you're familiar with our comic) turns in to a barbarian-esque looking fellow), and my character (baxter) materializes in to a robot. We're going to loosely base each world on some aspect of a videogame. Whether it be so clumsely based on the green mountains with faces in the background of Mario 3, or Ivalice of FFT, it can change.

After we land on the guy, he brings us to his leader for proding. So we end up as fugitives because they think we are otherlander spies. So we're pursued and whatnot. As we run away from our captors we experience these unique and neat little societies and worlds.

The main kingdom is based around relics such as little stones. He's apart of a vigilant portion of the military, hence the ripped sleeves while everything else is pretty trim and proper. The orange armor he wears is granted after you accomplish different levels amongst the ranks of their group. This is why not all the armor is orange in tint. His axe is magical, and has 2 powerful magic stones welded into their blades.

It's basically all so I can just do whatever I want. I mean, if I want to have vampires vs. some alien monster trying to harvest their kind for food then I'll do it. Stuff like that is not off limits. Anyway, negitoro always has helpful tips and stuff for me.

Please tip it away. It's supposed to look like a cartoon melded with realistic elements. I hope I can pull it off, but I think I can.

  3. Pretty cool, I think the disco pig is my favorite.

    JM

  4. I think I'm happy with this guy and how he looks. I may fiddle around with his headgear though.

  5. I really like the new guy. His armor is pretty cool and the cartoony style with the ultra futuristic armor stuff matches surprisingly well. The cartoony style masks a few perspective problem well also... giving it a good style feeling.

    Just a few things...

    - The guy has no right heel. Just round it out towards the back more.

    - The red ornamental piece on the axe is throwing it off some... it sort of looks like his pinky finger -- moreso since your guy has only 4 fingers and wearing red armored glove plates.. it gives a sense that his hand is closed too tightly making the axe appear "behind" the hand. I'd suggest changing the handle color to a gray like in the first picture.

    - You should try to taper his left wrist a little more... his arm looks a little chunkier than it should and is also making the left hand look smaller than it is... the left hand is already a tad smaller than the right hand. The right hand has a greater 'illusion' of largeness just because it's wrapped around an axe.

Other than that.. he's awesome... I really look forward to reading the new Joystick Adventures...

  6. I detailed it a bit more. I'll upload an image and post it after I'm done. I made his hair longer and made his bandana taper in at the back with some rinkles coming forward. (more realistic)

EDIT: This is Andrew on my brothers account.

  7. His head is bigger on purpose (for the style, in all the drawings). Umm. I made his hair darker and his eyes orange to make him appear more dark and mysterious rather than happy go lucky. I want them to believe that he's evil to begin with, but through experience he'll lighten up a bit, I guess. Basically he's cut throat. The other 2 guys don't really kill a lot, or at all. He's the big knight of the group.

  8. I also defined his face. Usually enemies have defined faces in stories because it's a metaphor for being "worn out and tried" rather than innocent and untouched. So I think it looks better and works out a lot better.

  9. Some of the strokes may be screwed up because I just enlarged it and didn't spend a lot of time getting them to look as accurate as possible. But this is an enlarged version.

  10. http://www.joystickadventures.com/im...rsonal/Ion.jpg -- an angel of sorts.

http://www.joystickadventures.com/im...nal/Apollo.jpg -- supposed to be a special op guy but turned out looking like some immobile plumber

    http://www.joystickadventures.com/im...al/Crafter.jpg -- I like this one.

http://www.joystickadventures.com/im...Helmet-Guy.jpg -- rough sketch of some guy. He looks like a goon, but needs major reworking

    http://www.joystickadventures.com/im...onal/Lapse.jpg -- I like him too

http://www.joystickadventures.com/im...mech-SIZED.gif -- cool but needs to be more roboty. lines need to be defined more.

http://www.joystickadventures.com/im...nal/Pherum.gif -- WAY too much muscle here.

http://www.joystickadventures.com/im...nal/Raimus.gif -- This is when I started to slim down some of the figures. His legs still need more stylizing... I like his hair a lot.

http://www.joystickadventures.com/im...elling-Man.jpg -- I like this guys design a lot. He just needs some mountains over his shoulder (or nature) and a slimming down of sorts. (for a man that travels and walks a lot, he certainly is big.)
